Both the Stranger Things character Will Byers and the actor who plays him, Noah Schnapp, are confirmed to be gay. Schnapp confirmed that Will is gay "and does love Mike" in a 2022 interview with Variety . He also said that there have been hints that Will was gay going back to season 1 of Stranger Things . It has been leaked that Will is going to come out to Mike in season five, which premieres on November 26, 2025, on Netflix.

Noah Schnapp came out publicly in 2023 and announced the news on TikTok. In a 2023 interview with Variety after coming out, Schnapp said, “I would be in a completely different place if I didn’t have Will to portray, and to embrace and help me accept myself. I think if I never played that character, I probably would still be closeted.” What a neat story!
