Why do people like dogs so much?
I'm not a huge fan of dogs like most people I meet are, but why are dogs so loved while cats are so hated?

Dogs tend to be more outwardly social and affectionate, so people may perceive them as “nicer” or “friendlier” than cats. When someone comes home after a long day at work, a super happy-go-lucky puppy jumping all over them because they’re so happy they came home is just such a unique and loving feeling. Some cats greet their owners when they come home, but they're typically more reserved and less boisterous than dogs.
That said, the staff here definitely love cats, and we understand why some people prefer cats to dogs. Think about how many cat memes and cat YouTube compilations get shared every day! A lot of people prefer cats because they’re so fiercely independent. Sure, they may not jump up and down with joy when you walk in a room, but they love in their own way, and we're here for it.

Not sure where you heard that cat's were hated, both are equally loved. Dogs are just more active and can do more things, while cats are normally quiet and relaxed.

I sometimes hear a lot of "I don't like cats!" or "I hate cats because of _____" etc.

Their opinion, even if I find it to be wrong, but I can see the reasons behind not liking them to be somewhat fair. Cats don't interact with their owners as much as dogs do, and you also have to worry about their litter, treatments, them escaping, and other things that can be expensive.
Most overused excuse I've seen is, "They don't hang out and are moody." Like, you're practically Godzilla compared to them in size, and they have personal space too, put yourself in their shoes or paws.
