This wikiHow teaches you how to install Windows 8.1 on your PC. If you're currently using Windows 8, you'll just need to run some quick updates to get 8.1. If you just want to install Windows 8.1 over a different Windows version (from Windows XP to Windows 10), you'll just need to boot your PC from the installation DVD to get started. But don't worry if you don't have that DVD, as you can create your own (or even better—make a bootable Windows 8.1 USB flash drive). Check Microsoft's System Requirements to make sure your system will run Windows 8.1 before you begin.

  • Warning: Windows 8.1 is no longer supported as of January 10, 2023. It will no longer receive updates and support. It is recommended to move on to Windows 10 , or if your PC meets the system requirements, you can also move on to Windows 11 .

    You'll need to make sure Windows 8 has all of the necessary updates before running the operating system update tool. [2] Before you continue, get online and follow these steps to update Windows:

    • Select a language and click Download .
