The clock in Minecraft displays the sun and moon's position relative to the horizon, and can help your character determine when to go to sleep. You can craft a clock by combining four Gold Ingots with one Redstone in a crafting grid.
Steps
-
Make a crafting table . If you already have a crafting table, you can skip this step. A crafting table can be made using 4 wooden planks. Open your survival inventory and fill all 4 crafting spaces with a wooden plank to make a crafting table.
-
Obtain 4 gold ingots . Gold ingots are primarily obtained by smelting gold ore or raw gold in a furnace. Gold ore can be found from Y-levels 0-32 in all biomes, or from Y-levels 32-79 in badlands biomes [1] X Research source , and is mined with an iron pickaxe or better.
- Gold ingots can also be found in chests in mineshafts, dungeons, villages, shipwrecks, buried treasure, desert temples, jungle temples, strongholds, woodland mansions, ruined portals, Nether fortresses, bastions, and end cities [2] X Research source .
- Gold ingots may also be dropped by zombified piglins, which are found in the Nether.

Navigate to your crafting table and position your character directly in front of the table.
-
2Open the crafting table to access the crafting menu. The clock must be crafted using the Gold Ingots and Redstone in a crafting table. The instructions for accessing the crafting menu vary depending on your gaming system. Upon opening the crafting menu, the 3x3 crafting grid will display on-screen.
- Minecraft PC: Right-click on the crafting table to open the crafting menu.
- Minecraft PE: Tap on the crafting table to open the crafting menu.
- Xbox 360 / Xbox One: Press the “X” button on your Xbox controller to open the crafting menu.
- PS3 / PS4: Press the square button on your PlayStation controller to open the crafting menu.
-
Craft the clock. Place the redstone dust in the middle of the crafting grid, then place a gold ingot directly above, below, to the left, and to the right of it [5] X Research source . You can now place the clock in your inventory for later use.
-
Look at the clock to determine the time. The clock has 2 halves, a blue day side and a black night side. They slowly rotate clockwise throughout the day, corresponding to the actual positions of the sun and moon in the sky [6] X Research source .
- If the clock shows all or most of the day side, it is noon.
- If the clock shows all or most of the night side, it is midnight.
- If the clock shows both the day and night sides, with the day side on the left and the night side on the right, it is dawn.
- If the clock shows both the day and night sides, with the night side on the left and the day side on the right, it is dusk.
