Sims 2 Apartment Life is the eighth and final expansion pack to Sims 2 PC. It gives you just what the title says; Apartments and Apartment Life. If you have this game and want to know how to make a great apartment like the premade ones, then this article is for you.

  1. There are 3 different kinds of apartments you can make. They are condominiums, townhouses, and connected apartments. Condominiums are separated apartments. Townhouses are connected, but have a garage and a separate roof for each apartment. And connected apartments have a building with all the apartments inside.
  2. Connected apartments can be 3x3 in size, condos can be 3x4, and townhouses can be 5x2. These are just suggestions, but the sizes really make a difference.

  3. Enter cheats to build it. Press Ctrl, Shift and C to activate the cheat box. Type in the following cheats:
    • changelotzoning apartmentbase
    • boolProp aptBaseLotSpecificToolsDisabled false
    • "changelotzoning apartmentbase" changes the lot to an apartment. You can tell if the mailbox turns into a multiple slot mailbox. boolProp aptBaseLotSpecificToolsDisabled false lets you add in doors, walls, etc.
  4. If you have foundation, don't forget the stairs. Avoid boxes, and don't make it too big or small! Remember, there should be 3 or 4 apartments within each lot, so make sure you have the size right.
  5. Try to put the windows all over the apartment building, or else an apartment won't get enough light. The front door can be any door except for the apartment door with the rug, or else Sims will rent the whole thing. For the roof, you can put in an actual roof or flooring. For a roof, click on the roof tool button, then drag the roof tool to where you want. You can select different styles and colors of roofs. For flooring, go to the flooring tool, then drag the floor you want across the desired area.
  6. This can be stone, brick, paneling, whatever you want. To do it faster, press Shift before you click the wall. The whole area is covered! Do this for each story of the house.
  7. Every apartment in Sims 2 has a lobby. On the first floor (excluding foundation), put in a medium-sized room with a fireplace, couches, tables, etc. This is the main room where your Sims can hang out. Remember, Sims 2 Apartment Life comes with vending machines!
  8. The wall trick explained earlier also works for floors. Here is a list of the basic furniture to put in each apartment:
    • Plumbing: Sink, bathtub/shower, toilet
    • Kitchen: Counters, stove, fridge
    • Ceiling lights
    • Built-in Closet
  9. This can be a garden, a fence, or a playground for the little sims. You could even add a pool! Be creative, but even a bush or two really changes the environment. Another idea is to add outdoor lamps and benches.

No. You can only make apartments with the "Sims 2 Apartment Life" expansion pack.
  • Question
Is there any way to make apartments without Apartment Life?
    Community Answer
Unfortunately, no. If you don't have Apartment Life, you can make a residential lot that looks like an apartment, but you won't be able to rent out individual apartments or have multiple families on one lot.

      Tips

      • Each apartment doesn't have to be identical!
      • Most furniture that isn't built in will disappear when your sims move in. However, it's used when townie sims move into other apartments, so you'll see any furnishings if you visit their unit.
      • Make sure that when using the "changelotzoning apartmentbase" cheat, no Sims are currently living on the lot.
