Sometimes you need to turn off those audible navigation noises in Uber Driver. Whether you want to quiet the app temporarily or to turn off the app's spoken navigation prompts indefinitely (not recommended by Uber), there is a way.
Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 2:
Temporarily
-
1Open up Uber Driver. The icon is maroon with a white hexagon icon on it, with a square design cut out in the middle.
-
2Go online and accept a trip, if you haven't already done so. Go online by tapping the blue and white "Go" button near the bottom center of the map. Tap the circular button in the top center line of the trip request once one is displayed.Advertisement
-
3Tap the turn by turn line.
-
4Look toward the top right corner of the list that displays, just above the turn-by-turn directions. You'll see the mute/unmute button display. If it has no \ shard over the top of it, it's not been silenced. If it does have one, audio has been muted.
-
5Unmute again when needed, after the audio has been muted. After you tap the mute button, the turn-by-turn menu closes back up and the ride begins muting the audible turn-by-turn directions. However, you can open the menu up again to see and change the mute status.Advertisement
Method 2
Method 2 of 2:
Indefinitely
-
1Open up Uber Driver. The icon is maroon with a white hexagon icon on it, with a square design cut out in the middle.
-
2Don't go online and accept any trips. You won't be able to change this setting while you're on a ride.
-
3Open your Settings page. Tap your profile picture in the top right corner and tap "Account". Tap "App Settings" to get to your Settings menu.
-
4Tap the "Sounds & Voice" setting. If you don't have it, you'll need to update your app "Sounds & Voice" is at the top of the App Settings menu.
-
5Tap the switch next to "Voice navigation" if the switch has a filled in circle (or the switch is positioned on the right).
- Leave on "Read rider messages" and/or "Announce trip events" unless you'd like to turn those off too - but doing so is not recommended.
- Uber recommends that you keep voice navigation on, for your sake and your riders' sense of security.
-
6Close out of all Settings pages until you return to your map.
-
7Go online if you wish and accept a trip. Test out the feature. Drive for a little while and see if your voice navigation makes any sounds - it shouldn't.Advertisement
