  • Question
How do I add numbers to the upper right corner of the pages of an essay in Microsoft Word?
    Community Answer
First, click the "Insert" tab on the top toolbar. Then, select the "Page Number" button under the "Header & Footer" section in the middle of the page. Next, a drop-down menu will appear. Hover your mouse over the "Top of Page" Button and a side menu should appear with visuals of where on top of the page the page number will appear. Select, "Plain Number 3." Now you can put your last name in front of the number (some teachers require that), and you can change the font and size under the "Home" tab in the top toolbar. You can exit the "Header & Footer" by double-clicking on the center of the document.
  • Question
My teacher told us that annotating with a highlighter is unacceptable because after you finish reading, you may not remember why you highlighted the word(s).
    Community Answer
Well, that's your teacher's opinion. Annotate however she instructs you to do it, but if highlighting works for you, you should feel free to keep using that method in your other classes or in the future.
  • Question
I tend to highlight a lot. How do I slow this process down to annotate by literary analysis?
    Desiree H. Espinoza
    Community Answer
When you first begin, start by highlighting the answers to, "who, what, when, where, why and how?" If you want more specific annotations, you need to be intentional and practice. For example, if you are looking for similes, then practice looking for that specific literary element throughout a variety of texts.
