    Expert Answer
I suggest using red-based eyeshadow colors to match your crease. If you have light skin, your crease might be pinkish or orange, and if you have very dark skin, it might be a deep eggplant tone. If you use at least one warm reddish shade on your eyes, it will be much easier to blend the color into your crease, because it will already match. For instance, I love yellow and gold paired with colors like brick, ash, purple, and chocolate, which all have a red base.
  • Question
What are the best colors for beginners?
    Community Answer
For very fair to tan skin, a matte brown, a shimmery beige, a skin toned matte, and a dark matte brown. A matte black is nice but not needed. If you want to keep it really simple, a matte brown and shimmery beige is all you need. For darker skin, a matte dark brown, a shimmery copper, a skin tone matte, and an almost black matte. Again, you really need a crease color and a highlight shade.
  • Question
How should I do it so that I don't accidentally miss my eyelid when applying it? Sometimes that's an issue for me. What are some of the best ways to do it without messing things up?
    Community Answer
When you apply your eyeshadow you should have one eye open for you to know where your brush lands upon on. If you find it difficult, which is perfectly fine, take it slow and steady. You can also practice with a clean brush and just mark spots to get the right touch.
  • Question
What color goes best with blue eyes?
    Community Answer
Most neutral colors go best with blue eyes. For example, tans and browns, but also a glittery white.
  • Question
Can't I just use one color, I don't have time for all that.
    Megan16
    Community Answer
Sure you can. All you need is a beige or brownish shade if you have a warm skin tone or a pinkish or ivory shade if you have a cool skin tone. Then sweep it over your entire eyelid.
  • Question
How should I apply eyeshadow to the creases of my eyes?
    Community Answer
Use an angled brush or a pointed brush. Take one of your darker shades, and run your brush in the crease of your eye. Use a blending brush or an angled brush to blend it out.
  • Question
What can I use instead if I don't have an eyeshadow brush?
    Community Answer
You can use your fingers for most things, but it's nice to have one soft crease brush for blending, if you can.
  • Question
I have to wear black eye shadow for a performance. Should I attempt to layer it?
    Cecilia Flores
    Top Answerer
Working with black, and any other dark eye shadow for that matter, is difficult. I would say to practice the look you're planning on using until you think it looks good. This is a general rule for dark colors, but layer it on little by little, because a little goes a long way!
  • Question
What can I do to cover up spots on my face without using makeup?
    Community Answer
Makeup (ideally, concealer) is the only way to cover them up. A tinted moisturizer or something like that could help very slightly. Otherwise, the best you can do is take good care of yourself and your skin so your acne will diminish over time. See How to Get Rid of Acne for guidelines on that.
  • Question
How would I apply eyeshadow to a round-shaped eye?
    Community Answer
If you have trouble applying in certain areas of the eye, pull the eyelid very lightly where your eye creases and apply the eyeshadow in the mirror. This will help you to get into those hard-to-reach areas.
  • Question
Beauty gurus often say that if you are going for a more dramatic look you should do your eye makeup first to avoid messing up any fallouts on your face. Should I trust this advice?
    Victoriavulpix
    Community Answer
Yes. It's really easy to mess up with fallout or just eyeliner mistakes when you are going for a dramatic look, so doing eye makeup first is a good tip. You could also put loose powder under your eye like you would bake, after setting everything. Just take a lot more so if you get any fallout you can just dust it right off.
  • Question
Want to do party makeup. Could you guide me on shimmer effect eye shadow makeup with pinks and peaches, what colors or shades to choose, and which one to apply where?
    Cecilia Flores
    Top Answerer
Base shade. Light peach in crease. Medium peach in crease. Dark pink in outer V. Red in outer corner. Dark pink on lower lash line. Red on outer third of the lower lash line. Shimmery color goes on the eyelid. Use a shimmery or matte white (or very light pink) in the inner corner to brighten up the eyes. Eyeliner and mascara.
  • Question
What should you do if you think that the color you are using is taking to much attention away from your eyes?
    Community Answer
Blend it out with a very light hand, and use a shade similar to your skin tone to blend with. It will help tone it down a lot! Or you can just try using a different color.
  • Question
I'm in 6th grade. Should I be wearing eyeshadow and if so, what colors?
    Community Answer
If you want to wear eyeshadow and it's okay with your parents, go for it! At your age it's best to start out with neutral colors that are similar to your skin tone.
  • Question
How can I conceal heavy top lids with eye shadow?

  • Question
How do I know what kind of lipstick to use and how much to put on?
    Community Answer
To match your lipstick with eyeshadow, it is important to balance. If you have bold looking eyes, go for a nude looking lipstick. If your eyes are very natural, go for a bold lip color. One classic look is a black winged eyeliner with light eyeshadow and a bright red lipstick. When applying any kind of makeup, less is more. You can always reapply it later if needed.
  • Question
How do I apply red eyeshadow?
    Cecilia Flores
    Top Answerer
To apply red eyeshadow without looking sick or like you have an eye infection, use a little bit of red at a time and build up the color. Red is such a bold color that if you're going to go out wearing it, you'll have to practice with that shadow in advance.
  • Question
What color is good for red hair and freckles?
    Community Answer
You could use a light brown color. Just use a color that matches your freckles and your outfit. You can also wear a light pink, it would look good with red hair. This is what I do. Everybody is different, so just try on all the colors of eyeshadow you have and see which one looks better.
  • Question
Green eye shadow brings out the bright blue of my eyes. Is green eye shadow still in style? I can find it at the stores.
    Community Answer
Of course you can find it in stores! Any drugstore and any high end makeup store should have it. You can also check online.
  • Question
What is the best way to apply glitter eyeshadow and blush?
    Cecilia Flores
    Top Answerer
Use a cosmetic glitter glue, and pat the glitter on with a flat, dense brush. For blush, it's a little harder because where you apply the blush and how you blend it out depends on your face shape.

  • Question
I have pretty small eyes, and it gets to the point where I put on my eyeshadow and eyeliner and I don't even see the eye makeup. What do I do?
    Community Answer
You could apply white liner to the waterline of your eye to make it look bigger. Also, make sure your eyeshadow is blended all the way to your brow bone highlight. If your eyeliner is still covering your eyeshadow, your eyeliner is way too thick!
  • Question
How would I apply my eyeshadow with just an applicator?
    Community Answer
You would generally apply it the same as with a brush or fingers. You can dip the applicator into the eyeshadow palate, and rub it across your eyelid until you have the desired color.
  • Question
How do I apply rainbow eyeshadow?
    Community Answer
I suggest putting a white cream base on your lid. After it dries, powder red-yellow-light blue-dark blue- purple; blend the lines between the colors and add more primary colors in the middle to make the colors "pop". Use a very fine brush, light strokes and layers. Since makeup can be different, it is better to test it before you plan on going out to see if you are happy with the result, and modify it if you are not.
  • Question
Ways to apply eyeshadow for all eye colours and seasons?
    Community Answer
The colors vary from season to season. Summer, you could try more bright pops of color such as hues of oranges or yellows. Autumn and winter are more maroon - burgundy hue. Spring is more light such as beige or light pinks. The ways to apply them are the same as what is above.
  • Question
What all will I need to do my eye makeup?
    Community Answer
You will either want an eyeshadow base or wand concealer. This is to be the foundation of the eyeshadow. Then, find either a single eyeshadow or a palette that compliments your skin tone well. Decide on a look. For a smoky eye, blend dark colors on the outer "v" of your eye, or maybe a cut crease and blend dark colors into the crease of your eye to give definition.
