  • Question
How do I become a better actor?
    Community Answer
It should just happen as you do more acting and gain more confidence. If you don't feel comfortable with acting and think you can't do any better, maybe acting just isn't for you for the long term. But don't give up! You can do it. Remember acting is just putting yourself into another's shoes and expressing that.
  • Question
Should I use a monologue from the play I am auditioning for?
    Community Answer
No, it is better not to unless you have been directed to. Often directors have a set notion of how lines are supposed to be said, and it can make them annoyed if you are saying your monologue differently to how hey imagine it. It is better to do another monologue from a different play by the playwright.
  • Question
How can I get an agent?
    Community Answer
Search online for good performing agencies, and you will easily be able to find a range of companies that suit you. On their websites, they should have a contact page with phone numbers and email information. Contact the agency and organize a time to meet with someone to discuss both the agency's, and your goals and opportunities, and to decide if you are a good fit. If it doesn't work the first time, keep on trying. It doesn't mean you aren't talented, it just means you're not what they are looking for right now, or they've got too many people like you on the agency.
  • Question
I am 15 and I think I am a good actor, though I haven't been to any school or film institute. What should I do?
    Community Answer
You could audition and see what happens, but also practice your acting with a friend a few times first and see what they think.
  • Question
How can I play a paranoid person as a character?
    Community Answer
Paranoid people are usually on edge and a little detached from reality. You can portray this by the use of the eyes (looking at different things and not focusing on one thing but don't over do it) breathing (slightly fast and heavy breaths to show panic and fear) and fidgeting (slight scratching and jittery, to show you're on edge). Whatever you do, don't overdo it -- just be natural and try to put yourself into the character's shoes and it should just happen.
  • Question
How do I get head shots?
    Community Answer
Contact a photographer in your local area and request that they take headshots of you. They will have more information and price ranges available for you. You could have a one-look photoshoot, or a two-look photoshoot. If you are doing a two-look photoshoot, you will change clothes and get a hair and makeup touch-up between outfits.
  • Question
How do I get into character?
    Community Answer
Discover your character and create it. What does that person like to do in spare time? What is his/her favorit colour and food? Where does that person likes to go when he/she is alone? How does that person walks, and speaks to others? These are just few examples to create the character.
  • Question
I'd like to audition in a local theater, but I can't even act in front of my family. Should I drop my dream?
    Community Answer
Just because you aren't confident about acting in front of people doesn't mean that you should drop your dream! You just need to get comfortable acting in front of people, and the best way to do that is to practice regularly. Join as many local plays as you can!
  • Question
Where do I find out where to audition?
    Community Answer
Research online for theaters near you. Small local ones are the best places to start. Always keep tabs on upcoming play auditions, most of the time the theater or acting group will post them on their website.
  • Question
What if I don't know what the play is?
    Community Answer
You may not want to audition for it then. If you weren't told what to prepare, or what the show is, it may be difficult to see what the judges are looking for. If you still want to audition, then try to find a generic but popular monologue to perform.

    Community Answer

  • Question
Do I have to know how to cry on the spot?
    Payton Maguire
    Community Answer
It takes a while to master the art of fake crying, but it can be helpful to be able to do so. Here are a few tips. When you know you have to start crying, try thinking of something that makes you sad. Pinch yourself enough to make your eyes water. Exaggerate! Acting is all about emotions. Don't be afraid to give it your all. Exaggerate your facial expressions. Use body language: hunch your shoulders, hold your own hand, etc.
  • Question
If I can't make for the first time can I get a chance to audition for next time?
    Leyla Jeena
    Community Answer
It depends on who the director is and the details surrounding the audition. Most auditions last a few days so that people can find a date that suits them. If the dates presented are not suitable for you, then you should try to contact one of the managers or directors of the production. You should then ask them if there is another possible time when you could audition, or you could ask them if you could do the audition beforehand.
