  • Question
How can I motivate an uninterested student?
    Community Answer
First try to understand why the student is unmotivated. Perhaps he doesn't think that English will be useful, or he doesn't think he will be successful in life even if he tries in school. Perhaps English doesn't interest him. Once you think you know the reason, you can make a plan to motivate the student, whether it is through a one-on-one pep talk, more interesting lesson plans, or a visit to the school counselor.
  • Question
How can I encourage students to speak in the class?
    Community Answer
As a student, I suggest you find topics that are interesting for your students. You can either ask them or research their interests by age group. You can then build an activity to make them talk about that subject. They could either speak to the whole class from their places, in front of the class, or even in small teams. As a student, I would rather talk in small teams, since it reduces the anxiety we feel about speaking in front of large groups.
  • Question
How do I teach low-level and starter students?
    Community Answer
I spend a lot of time telling stories, then writing new vocabulary down (after reviewing vocabulary from previous classes/stories). Kids love the stories and look forward to class.
  • Question
How can I teach English without stress?
    Community Answer
Teaching English shouldn't be stressful. I imagine the stress is coming from your students. To lighten your stress, maybe start delegating activities to students, create projects the students can engage in autonomously, or plan your lessons more thoroughly so you can be well prepared for class.

  • Question
How do I evaluate students fairly?
    Community Answer
By keeping in mind that you are their guide, not a monarch ruler. Treat your students as human beings with individual personalities, problems, lifestyles, and experiences. When you feel yourself rushing to judgment about a student, consider why the student might be acting, speaking, writing, or behaving a specific way. Lastly, don't use your position as a teacher to punish your students for perceived personality faults via grades.

Learning your opinion of her will probably not motivate your teacher to change. It's probably a better idea to work with her as much as possible (as the other students do) and look forward to a better teacher next year.
