  • Question
How do I increase my range?
    Community Answer
You can do vocal exercises every day, and keep pushing for higher notes. Make sure it comes from your diaphragm, or else it won't work as effectively.
  • Question
How do I know if I'm hitting the notes?
    Community Answer
Install a voice tuner app on your phone or tablet. Make sure its accurate.
  • Question
How can I keep from being embarrassed by my ability to sing tenor as a female?
    Community Answer
That's not embarrassing! I know several females (myself included) who can sing tenor parts, and in musical theater, it comes in handy more often than you think. Just think of it as a wider vocal range.
  • Question
What's wrong with accepting who you are?
    Community Answer
Nothing is wrong, some people wish to try new things or increase vocal ranges. There is nothing wrong with either.
  • Question
How do I sing as high as Melanie Martinez?
    Community Answer
Follow the steps, but remember your voice is your own. Don't forget, she edits her voice to set the mood of her song. She also gets a lot of her sound through the shape of her mouth, so it's not her voice alone doing the work. Continue imitating her but dont try to make your voice just like someone else because your voice is unique and beautiful. Use it as you please.
  • Question
What notes does a second soprano sing as opposed to alto and soprano?
    Community Answer
It's very similar to soprano. Mainly, the seconds usually sing the same melody, but one or two notes lower.
  • Question
How do I train my voice to whistle sing if I am an alto singer, almost a mezzo soprano?
    Community Answer
Wait until your voice has been trained enough as a Soprano 1, then try whistle notes. If that's too hard, try overtone singing.
  • Question
How do I sing soprano when I'm an alto?
    Community Answer
Use your stomach as opposed to your nose, and push out the notes using your head voice.
  • Question
I used to be able to sing higher, but I can't any longer. How can I learn to hit these notes again without damaging my voice?
    Lord_Tommo
    Community Answer
You shouldn't try to belt higher than you can naturally without a proper singer training you. You can severely damage your vocal chords by trying to belt out of your comfort zone. If the sound sounds strained, stop.
  • Question
How do I make my voice sound like 2017 singer?
    Community Answer
Try adding more runs and turns as you are singing. Be free with the music and really just do what feels natural.
  • Question
What if my teacher doesn't let me switch sections and I'm stuck singing lower notes until the next school year?
    Community Answer
If you have private lessons with, make an effort to be able to sing higher notes more comfortably and they might reconsider you.
  • Question
I love singing, I know what notes are, but I have no idea how to correlate notes to sounds. I normally sing by ear. What can I do?
    Community Answer
If you are between 4th and 12th grade, try taking a choir class. The class teaches you how to sight read music and read them for their notes' worth. A piano lesson or two couldn't hurt as well.
  • Question
How do I increase my voice octaves?
    Community Answer
Practice, practice, practice! Try doing scales and other warm ups as well.
  • Question
Is it normal for my voice to sound softer when hitting high notes?
    Community Answer
Yes. Usually, it depends on the style of the music you're singing. If you're singing high notes, but it sounds very soft compared to the lower notes, it's probably because you're using falsetto to sing the high notes (singing with your throat instead of your stomach).
  • Question
I am most comfortable in my Alto-Mezzo Soprano voice, but my range is 5 octaves, so I can definitely reach Baritone notes without straining. Is that considered good?
    Community Answer
It would be considered great, of course. IF it was true. Not even Maria Callas had a 5 octaves range. Don't mislead yourself.
  • Question
If I'm a soprano, is it still alright to audition with a soprano-made song, but sing it lower-pitched as long as it sounds good?
    Community Answer
As long as it is a song you are confident and comfortable with performing (and you can find the right sheet music), you can audition with a song transposed into any key you like, especially to fit your range.
  • Question
How can I gradually increase my range?
    Community Answer
Practice! It's the most important thing that you can do. Work with new vocal warm-ups, which go beyond that which you already do, and gradually increase the athleticism of each exercise you do. Learn what is comfortable for you, and then do a bit more above and below. Never push yourself to sing high just because you want to be able to; the voice is a very fragile instrument, and it takes work to increase your range. Be patient, and it will come!
  • Question
How do I get my soprano voice back if it's now an alto?
    Hagukanan
    Top Answerer
I don't think you're going to have much luck, unfortunately. Voices tend to develop as you age, even for females, so your voice is most likely leaning towards the alto side.
  • Question
How do I make my alto and soprano voice sound as high and free as Ariana Grande without harming my vocal chords?
    Community Answer
Just keep practicing the notes that you can sing and then slowly work your way up higher and higher. Make sure that you don't strain your voice by going too high. Keep within you actual and natural range. If it's not as high as Ariana's, then don't strain that high.
  • Question
How do I make my voice soprano when I'm an alto?
    Community Answer
You can increase your range with a degree of training, but you can't normally change your vocal type. Try singing songs that sit higher in your range than normal to strengthen that area and over time build yourself up.
  • Question
I am a twelve year old. If I am either alto or soprano, will my voice change over time? And also, do you have to start singing really young to be good?
    Community Answer
Yes, your voice changes as you age. If you practice and sing with feeling the rhythm and music, you will improve in time. Just ask yourself why you listen to your favorite singer. And try to put that feeling and emotion into your voice. It will grow with practice. You are not too young to begin.
  • Question
Can you be an alto and a soprano?
    W1kiHelper12321
    Community Answer
No. If you’re more comfortable singing high notes, you’re a soprano. If low notes are your forte, you’re an alto. You can, however, sing as low as an alto and as high as a soprano.
  • Question
I can hit most notes in my head voice but not belting (I'm a belter). So how will I be able to belt those notes? I'm currently a mezzo-soprano.
    Community Answer
Humans can only belt so high, be sure you're using proper belt techniques and that you're not screaming. Belting shouldn't push out much air, also raise your soft palate and larynx to avoid strain and make those higher notes sound bigger. If you can mix your chest voice with your mixed voice it will create a sound similar to belting in that higher area.
  • Question
I'm a soprano singer, but sometimes I think I'm not really singing soprano. How should I train my voice to sound good to me?
    Kahootlover1
    Community Answer
Think of a soprano whose singing voice you like -- Mariah Carey, Taylor Swift, Dove Cameron, someone like that. Then, use the above steps to try to sing like them -- or how you think it sounds good.
