Wash and condition your hair, detangling it as you condition it. If there are still tangles after, brush your hair with a detangling product, working your way from the tips of your hair to the roots. Let your hair dry before you start braiding it.

How do I hold all the pieces of hair at the same time when I am doing a french braid?
    Community Answer
Use your middle finger and curl it around the middle strand very tightly, and the same with your index finger for the outside strand you aren't adding hair to. Then you lay the strand hair is being add to across your hand, holding it with your ring finger. Then that frees up your other hand to get hair to add. Get that hair, add it, and continue braiding.

Do the same thing, but on the side of the head and with thinner strands. Make sure the hair is brushed, perfect and even. Gel the hair after you braid it if you need to. (Personally I don't, as it makes my hair stiff.)

    Community Answer
Practice! That's the only way to get better at anything. Practice on your own hair, practice on a friend's hair, practice on a doll's hair, etc. When you get good at a regular braid, try learning some other different styles!
