It's not impossible in principle, since the phone company would have records on this, but legally they cannot give you this information without a court order or a warrant. If you're having serious problems (like someone is threatening your over the phone or you believe the person is a stalker) contact the police and they may be able to track the number in the course of an investigation. Some carriers also allow you to dial *57 for a Call Trace option, but if the trace is successful you will not get the traced number directly, and will have to contact local law enforcement to get the information and prove that you have a legitimate reason for tracing the number.

Take note of the date and time the number called you, then call your phone company. They will be able to use this information to find out who called you, and block the number for you. If they are unable to block the number for you, they will be able to give you that number so that you can block it yourself.

Your iPhone should store the actual number from which you are receiving those annoying calls. There are several free apps that block numbers, such as Calls Blacklist. I'm sure there are apps for blocking numbers that don't give any identification.
