  • Question
If all of the leaves don't fall off naturally, do I need to cut them off in the winter?
    Community Answer
It won't hurt to leave them on the tree. However, you should consider removing them if they are still there after the new year. Beeches are notorious for this, and often the new shoots push the old leaves off.
  • Question
Why does a Chinese elm grow fresh leaves and then immediately shed them?
    Community Answer
This shouldn't happen, and if it does, it indicates that your tree is not getting enough water (or too much) or may be receiving too much heat. Also, check your potting soil to ensure that there is not too much peat. Finally, make sure your tree is firmly seated in its pot, using wire for stabilization if necessary.
  • Question
Do the leafs fall off in autumn
    Community Answer
Yes! Some trees more than others, but when the temperature gets colder and fall rolls around, the leaves fall off onto the ground.
  • Question
How do I know if I need to water my Chinese elm bonsai tree or just spritz it?
    Community Answer
Check if the soil deep down is dry. If it is, you need to water it. If not, you don’t.
  • Question
My bonsai is turning yellow. What should I do?
    Community Answer
If it is not autumn, then it probably needs a good feed. If it is a bonsai, then give it 50% strength liquid fertiliser.
  • Question
Leaves are dropping and white fungus on soil, was given tree 5 days ago.

This is likely too much watering. Let the soil dry, gently scrape the fungus/mold off the soil and spray the tree and soil with small portions of water rather than watering it.
