Why does my cat bite my toes?
    Community Answer
It's most likely just a form of playfulness.
  • Question
My kitten is really underweight (from a breeder), so I'm feeding him with a syringe and bottle. But the milk drips onto his fur and gets crusty. I've tried bathing him but it isn't changing. Help!
    Community Answer
You can look online for milk bottles for pets. As for the mess, you can use a washcloth and try to gently scrub it out. If he drips, immediately clean the milk before it dries. When it comes to feeding time, have a warm, damp washcloth ready beside you and maybe a small bowl of warm water. Make sure you use the correct milk, so go to a pet store or vet for it. Once the kitten is at least four weeks old start giving it water. Water is vitally important for cats.
  • Question
Is it okay to keep cat food out all the time for cats to eat?
    Community Answer
In some cases yes, but keep an eye out on how much they're eating.
  • Question
How do I take care of orphaned kittens who are weak?
    Community Answer
You will need to keep them warm (e.g. hot water bottle and a towel/jumper in a box) and feed them as the mother would. This means finding a kind of milk that they can be fed (not cow's milk). Some supermarkets and vet stores sell "pet milk" or "cat milk" which does not contain lactose. They will need to be fed several times a day, depending on how old they are. Handle them a lot so they get used to you. Bathe them gently in warm water with babies' soap if they are dirty, otherwise you could wet a hand towel and wipe them clean with it (as a mother would lick them).
  • Question

I recommend 8 weeks old. Make sure they have a good enough weight to be treated, though.
  • Question
My young son poured some shampoo on our kitten's back. How do we get it out? We've tried a warm cloth and simply washing it out but it's not coming out.
    Community Answer
I'd give your kitten a full bath. If it still won't wash out after that then simply take her to a groomer and they should be able to handle it.
  • Question
Is there a cat shampoo for fleas and for fur loss?
    Community Answer
Not for both issues. Instead of a flea shampoo, you could try Capstar. It will kill all the adult fleas. There is no need to give it every day, once or twice a week is sufficient. You will want to do all pets in the household at the same time, though. As far as shedding, try the Furminator. It is a comb that helps strip the loose undercoat. Also, if you bathe your cat with a mild shampoo, afterwards use a wet wash cloth and wipe and stroke your cat to remove a lot of loose fur.
  • Question
Are baby wipes safe to use to wipe a kitten's eyes?
    Community Answer
Use unscented wipes that have no alcohol or aloe vera in them. A piece of cloth soaked in warm, not hot, water is a better option.
  • Question
If my 6 week old kitten has fleas, can I use Dawn soap to kill them?
    Community Answer
You should consult with your vet due to the age of the kitten. For older cats, you can definitely use Dawn soap as it is gentle on your skin, but consult with your vet to ensure that it is safe for your young kitten.

  • Question
How do I get rid of matted fur on my cat. It does not like to be brushed and they get really bad.
    Community Answer
Your best bet is to take your cat to a professional groomer. There they will know how to handle cats with stronger personalities.
  • Question
Can I bathe a 5-week-old kitten? My kitten has a lot of fleas.
    Community Answer
Yes! When a cat has fleas, you need to act immediately! Get some flea shampoo or medication for your cat. Take it to the vet if you're not sure if you can tackle the problem yourself.
