  • Question
How can I calm my nerves?
    Community Answer
Take slow, deep breaths, and picture success. Channel your nerves into adrenaline to make yourself run faster.
  • Question
What do you do if you're too tired to finish the race?
    Community Answer
You keep going. Motivation is key, as if you allow your body to stop, it will just become even harder. Since it's about 1/2 a mile, it is not recommended that you go the fastest you ever have, but do not try to pace yourself. Another tip: try to slow your breathing. If you control your breathing, you control your heart rate, in which it will benefit you. Deep breaths in through your nose and deep breaths out your mouth. To be honest, too tired to finish means that you have passed out in the middle of the race.
  • Question
What are some tricks for winning a 1005 meter race?
    Community Answer
Just start off slow and increase speed gradually. It's all about pace. Also, make sure you warm up well.
  • Question
What exercises or stretches should I do beforehand?
    Community Answer
I would recommend some quick, light runs just to get your muscles moving. When stretching, focus on your quads and calves. For example, some light lunges could be a good choice. Many people neglect their quads/calves when stretching, resulting in those areas "tightening up" while running.
  • Question
How can I learn to control my breathing in this race?
    Community Answer
It helps me to count to four in my head and breath in on one and out on four, matching the count with my stride.
  • Question
How can I increase my endurance?
    Community Answer
Go for long distance runs and increase the distance every week. You could also do high intensity interval training which involves sprinting for short periods of time then walking, then sprinting again and so on.
  • Question
What if the person who sprints forward doesn't ever slow down and keeps on sprinting?
    Community Answer
Then in the last 100-200m you can sprint before them because you have saved your energy.
  • Question
What else can be taken instead of an energy drink?
    Community Answer
Eat a lot of nutritious food and drinks to provide you with energy, such as fruits and vegetables. Although this may seem like a cliche answer, its much better than an energy drink and will provide you with the same amount of energy.
  • Question
After one lap I get tired, how do I run the rest of the race?
    Community Answer
Either go slower on the first lap so you still have energy, or push through the pain. A little more training might also help.
  • Question
I smoke a lot and I give my best at 400 and I stop at 400. What can I do?
    Community Answer
Smoking can affect your breathing during a race, and is unhealthy in general, and you'd probably have an easier time running if you quit smoking. Also, practice makes perfect, so keep practicing.
  • Question
I tried to complete race within 2 minute 45 seconds, but I can't do this. What can I do?
    Community Answer
You need to constantly train. The fastest people require a lot of training. Once your body is used to the pressure and action, you should be getting better and better until you can complete it.
  • Question
An athlete takes part in an 800-meter race. How many times does he have to go around a square play field of 50 meter sides to complete the race?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
Once around the field would be 200 meters, so he has to go around four times.
  • Question
How should I train if I have several weeks before a race?
    Community Answer
You need to start immediately by eating healthier and taking daily runs around your neighborhood school track. The faster you move your arms, the faster you move your legs. You also need to get shoes that still fit comfortably when running.
  • Question
I have a blood pressure condition, and the last time I did this, I felt ill. How do I keep a pace so I won't get tired?
    Community Answer
I wouldn't recommend doing this if you have a blood pressure condition and have felt ill under similar conditions in the past. It could be a risk to your health. If you're intent on doing it, then pace yourself by starting slow and building up speed over several minute intervals.
  • Question
I run an 800 meter uphill, as this is the only space available to me. Is that okay?
    Community Answer
This is a great way to condition, as your thighs will be getting a great workout! However, make sure you do not strain your muscles too much, and that you get an appropriate amount of rest time between each set.
  • Question
I feel like once everyone passes the first curve, they fly past me. What can I do about this?
    Community Answer
Tag along at the back of the group for a little while, it might not feel very reassuring at first, but there is always a chance that they started off a little too fast and maybe won't be able to do a second lap around the track quite as fast as you. You wouldn't be as tired as them, and could start passing people at the same curve on the second lap around. By the end, you could be a lot closer to first place than all those people who bit off more than they could chew in the beginning. Stay determined and do your best!
  • Question
    How do I stretch quickly?
    Community Answer
It is important to do stretches that will help specifically with the activity you want to perform. You can find examples of effective stretches on the internet. It is important to be warmed up before you stretch, so you want to run or walk for 5 minutes before you start stretching to decrease chances of injury. It is important to stretch slowly and not force stretches. If a stretch is too uncomfortable, stop or allow yourself to decrease the intensity of the stretch. You will find you are able to stretch more easily and further each time you practice.
  • Question
In the 800m, what if everyone flies past me at the start? And I'm not able to catch up to them?
    Community Answer
Then they will probably finish the race before you. However, most people tend to go out way too fast in the 800, so don't get discouraged if you fall behind in the first lap, you might be able to catch some of them up in the second one.
  • Question
I could not finish my 800 meter run in time, is there was any way to decrease my time?
    Community Answer
Keep pushing yourself, and work on stamina. I suggest an app called "Zombies, Run," not just the zombie part, but the training plans. I suggest the 5k Expert option so you can work on that stamina. It starts you out pretty slow, but gradually works with you on getting your speed faster. Also, if you can actually finish a 5k, you can finish an 800 with ease.
  • Question
I’m new to running the 800 meter race, and I’ve never competed in it before, but I have to run it Tuesday. When do I “fall in” to the first lane in the race? I don’t want to get disqualified.
    Community Answer
After the second curve, there are cones marking when you can start to cut in. But use the stretch and don't cut in too fast because you might get boxed in.
  • Question
What exercises can I do to avoid muscle pulls or cramps after running a race?
    Community Answer
Stretch before the race and make sure you do a cool down afterward. Run an easy half-mile about 10 - 20 minutes after your race.
