  • Question
I carried out all instructions in the article, but I'm getting very few stations and lot of static. Do I need an an aerial to receive good reception?
    Community Answer
You need a proper antenna. Otherwise, the radio won't get enough signal. Also, use a good quality wire for connecting the antenna to the radio.
  • Question
Is the procedure the same for a 24 pin connector?

The 24pin Header will only go in one way. Check the pin header carefully for damage and make sure none of the pins are bent. AS you have RMA'd the board, I'd suggest the issue is with the Pin Header or if it's an older PSU, it may predate current ATX 2.2 power connection standards.
  • Question
What PSU should I use for this?
    Community Answer
Any PSU from a PC should work. You can either buy one or try to find an old one from a computer. It doesn't matter how many W it is, or whether it's modular or not.
  • Question
How can I keep the radio's memory without leaving the power supply on 24/7? Can I hook up a backup battery? How can I keep it charged using PC power?
    Community Answer
The best way is to use an old manually tuned receiver. My setup is an AM-FM-8 track player I got out of an Econoline motorhome in the junkyard. I power it with a 12V power supply from Radio Shack. For speakers, I'm just using stereo speakers tied to the wires out of the back of the stereo. My antenna is a piece of scrap #10 solid copper wire shoved into the antenna jack and held in with tape. This is just my setup. Any modern receiver will require a source of constant 12VDC power to maintain its memory.
  • Question
Is there a particular amount of power the PSU should have when connected it for home use?
    Community Answer
The power of the PSU should be enough depending on the radio specs. Check the output of the radio (usually it's something like 4x60W).
  • Question
How do I tell which wires are right when connecting my car stereo using a PSU?
    Community Answer
Usually black is GND (ground), Yellow is permanent 12V and red is ignition 12V (switched 12V to turn on/off the radio).
  • Question
Can I use a 12volt 5000 ma to power up my 1000 watts amplifier?

    Community Answer
You can, but it will not supply it with 1kW of power. milli = 1/1000 5000 mA = 5000* 1/1000 * Ampere = 5A 5A at 12V = 5*12 = 60W So you lack about 940W in your power supply if you want to crank it up to the max.
