    Expert Answer
Since it's traditionally a partner dance, doing the tango by yourself will be challenging. However, you can learn the basic moves on your own to develop muscle memory, then take a dance class to solidify those skills.

  • Question
Is it OK if I am a girl and dance with a girl?
    Community Answer
Yes. The tango isn't always for the traditional male/female dance partnerships. Just follow whatever dance teachings you get for tango, and dance as you please with whomever you like.
  • Question
The person I want a dance with is a lot taller than me. Will this be a significant issue?
    Community Answer
I’m 5’4 and my dance partner was 6 foot something. Wear heels that you're comfortable dancing in and you should be good. Just practice because you have to learn one another's rhythm.
  • Question
Can I learn to tango in 30 days?
    Community Answer
It depends on whether you have a good teacher, how much you practice, and your natural dancing abilities. It is certainly possible to learn to tango in 30 days, but dancing is something you continue to improve at for years.
  • Question
How do I not fall in love when doing such romantic moves?
    Community Answer
Think the moves not as romantic but as artistic. Once you get into this mindset, it's quite easy. Instead of romance, it's movements of the body perfectly crafted to portray a story. Think about the art of it.
  • Question
If my partner is a little taller than me when she wears heels, does that make it harder for me to lead?
    Cecilia Flores
    Top Answerer
Not usually. When the dance gets harder, it might get a bit tough. It generally shouldn't hurt the dance at all.
  • Question
Should it make me uncomfortable to dance with someone taller than me?
    Community Answer
Not in most cases. If it does make you uncomfortable, try wearing heels to average the height. If you still have a problem, find a different partner.
  • Question
Do I really need a partner to dance the tango?
    Community Answer
You could just try doing the steps alone, but it will be much more impressive with a partner.
  • Question
How can I dance the tango with a partner who is shorter than me?
    Community Answer
Height should have practically no effect on your dance except for your frame -- you just need to make sure your partner is comfortable with your step size, so you don't accidentally step on their feet. As long as you maintain a physical connection between your ribs, either of you should be able to lead or follow.
  • Question
What would be appropriate to wear for the tango?
    Community Answer
You could wear a dress (long or short, but short is recommended) or a shirt and pants, depending on which role you're dancing and what feels most comfortable. You should be able to move with ease in the clothes. You can also buy tango outfits but only when you are more serious about it, as the clothes are not for everyday wear.
  • Question
In which country did the tango come from?
    Mb_dca5d202c171
    Community Answer
Tango as we know it today was a product of many places and of many people, Many believe it came from the Rio De Laplata of BuenosAires but just as many believe it came from a part of Africa where Candomble was practiced. Possibly it is a product of many cultures and should be celebrated as such with an inclusive spirit and not so much exclusive. If you actually look at cangenge, you can literally see the African influences alive today but also many other cultural influences as well.
