  • Question
I gave someone $3 for gas. She told me a sad story, but then she drove away without getting gas. How do I not get caught off guard like this? How can I not be fooled?
    Community Answer
People are selfish and will manipulate you. You can either harden up and never help anyone, or stay how you are and expect to get fooled once in a while. Just shrug it off and keep being a good person. If this same thing happens again, go in the gas station with her and purchase the gas yourself.
  • Question
How do I address a friend who is asking me for money, when I believe he wants the money to support a drug addiction?
    Celeste
    Community Answer
It can be hard to say no to someone who constantly asks for money, but you mustn't let your friend take advantage of you. I would recommend telling a white lie and saying you're sorry, but you don't have any money. You might also want to confront your friend about his/her drug addiction and warn him/her about the negative effects of drugs on people's health and mental state. A good friend should be a good influence in this way.
  • Question
How do I ask my friend to return my money politely?

    Top Answerer
Keep it simple. Just say, "Hey, how about that money I gave you awhile back?" Try to make the friend feel as if this money between you does not jeopardize anything else. Ask them what the plans are, maybe he's working to get it together in one big payment, or is having some difficulty getting monthly payments started.
  • Question
How do I tell a person who may or may not be homeless to stop coming into my business and asking my employees for money?
    Community Answer
Homeless people have a tendency to go where it's easy, and where they can get money or other perks. Stop giving him money and he will go away. If you ask him nicely to leave, and he refuses, call the police and they can cite him for trespassing. If you're not the owner, make sure you have permission to call the police for this reason, as only the owner can request he be removed for trespassing in most states.
  • Question
If I am alone, how can I help beggars and help make my country free of them?
    Community Answer
Feed them. Most are addicts of sorts, so giving them a gift card to Walmart or a local restaurant is best. The gift cards could be just $5 (not much but something). Raise awareness by telling others about the importance of giving to those less fortunate. A country's problem can't be solved in one go, but one person can make a difference.
  • Question
If I need to shout to get attention, what should I say?
    Community Answer
It depends on the situation. If attacked, then shout "Help" or "Stop." You could also shout for the police, which will almost certainly get the attention of the people around you.
  • Question
We were eating at a nicer area of town. A man walked up to our table and asked us to pay for his meal. We weren't sure what to say so we gave him $10. Is there a good way to say no? It felt off to me.
    Belle K.
    Top Answerer
Start by being polite and firm with a simple "No". If they don't accept this rejection, then ask for a waiter/manager (whomever you can get) and request their assistance. You don't have to feel forced into giving people money in such a situation.

If you don't wish to give them anymore and they do ask for more, politely tell them that you don't have any spare cash with you at the moment.
  • Question
How to I get a beggar to stop bothering me? I gave him money once and was polite to him now he wants to act as a friend but I know he does it thinking he can get money from me so now I just ignore him?
    Community Answer
If he is on the streets, then give him a little bit but not too much every month. You don't want to overdo it. If he pushes it, then reduce the amount. However, if he ever is in grave condition, give him something or get him to a hospital, if necessary.

You have no obligation whatsoever to give him money. If you feel threatened, report his behavior to the police. Otherwise, try avoiding the general area he spends his time.
