When the ends of your hair split, the split will spread up the shaft to the rest of the strand. This can cause a lot of damage. If you notice split or frayed ends, get a trim to protect the health of your hair.
  • Question

  • Question
Is damaged hair as well as wanting a change a good enough reason to cut your hair?

    WhoKnowsAll

A lot of people say "No" when people ask them about cutting your hair but it can look so much nicer and healthier the shorter it is. I'd say you should go ahead and get it cut if that's what you want to do.
  • Question
How long does my hair need to be to cut it for charity?
    Community Answer
It differs from charity to charity, depending on what length they feel they need to be able to work with it. You will have to check out their websites. For example, the Little Princess Trust takes in hair that is seven inches, Pantene beautiful lengths takes in eight inches, wigs for kids twelve inches. Remember that every organisation also has different requirements when it comes to things like colouring, bleaching, and grey hair. That is also to be considered before you send it off.

  • Question
I really tempted to cut my hair short, but I'm not sure how short I want to go at the moment. I've been thinking shoulder-length, but I recall hating that length. I have thin-ish straight hair.
    Amy Gremillion
    Community Answer
If you're not sure how short to go, it's always better to leave a little length. Remember, you can always go back and cut more later! If you weren't crazy about a shoulder-length cut before, try a cut that falls about halfway between your chin and your shoulder, and ask for layers to help give your thin hair a little more volume.
  • Question
How can I tell whether my face is round or oval?
    Community Answer
Measure your face with a ruler. If the length of your face is bigger than the width, you most likely have an oval face. If the length and width are relatively similar, you probably have a round face. More help is offered here: How to Determine Your Face Shape .
  • Question
What length is best for thick, straight hair?
    Community Answer
Look at pictures of celebrities with your head shape that you admire and choose a favorite style. Take the picture to a stylist and ask their opinion. If you are afraid you won't like super short hair, cut it half way or even a quarter of the way. If you still feel like cutting it shorter, you can. If you don't like it, it will grow back out.

  • Question
I really want to cut my hair because its very thick and curly and is a hassle to maintain. Im a bit chubby and I have a round face. What kind of very short cut should I go for?
    Amy Gremillion
    Community Answer
Your curly hair will actually help you pull off a short cut better, since you have a round face. This is because your curls will add extra volume on top, drawing the eye upwards. You might consider a cut that's cropped close at the back and the sides, with a little extra length on top. Side-swept bangs may also be flattering.
  • Question
I have naturally curly hair. I got a straight perm, but its dying off and now a quarter of my hair is curly and the rest is wavy. Would it be fine if I cut my hair just below my shoulders?
    Amy Gremillion
    Community Answer
If the curls are mixed throughout your hair, rather than just at your roots, then cutting your hair just below your shoulders will probably give you a nice wavy look. If the curls are just at your roots, you may want to cut your hair shorter.
  • Question
I've got an oval shaped face. I've got dead-straight, thick hair and it still gets in a tangle, even if I brush it. It's chest length, but what hairstyles would suit me? I'd donate it, when its right.
    Amy Gremillion
    Community Answer
If you have an oval-shaped face, you can pull off almost any hairstyle, so pick one that suits your personality! For instance, if your style is super loud, you could shave one side of your head, but if you're more feminine, you might prefer a sleek bob. If your style is playful, a tousled pixie might be just right!

I have curly hair. I want to cut it like, pixie cut length, but im not sure. What should I do with my butt length hair?
    WhoKnowsAll
    Community Answer
Cut it too mid-back at first. You'll find it'll look healthier and you'll feel lighter. However, with curly hair, a pixie cut could poof out a bit as the shorter you cut your hair, the more bounce the curls could have.
  • Question
What hairstyle is best for medium hair (for thickness)? I have long hair that's almost to my butt and I want to cut it short and into like a guy's cut. What hairstyles would you recommend?
    Josh1997
    Community Answer
If you are thinking of cutting it really short, think of the outcome first and how it may look on you and your facial features. If you are set on having it short I would keep it bushy and tapered by having it cut to your chin with a natural curve and wave. Puff it out in the sides a bit and at the back, have it layered into a bob.

Will my hair look healthier if it is short?

  • Question
I want to cut my hair short, like a pixie cut, but my ears kind of stick out. Are there any tips on what short hairstyles I could get instead?
    Community Answer
Get a layered cut. Layered haircuts give more volume to fine, limp hair. When worn down, such cuts can hide the ears beneath the multiple layers. Visit a hairstylist to have your hair professionally layered, explaining that you'd like the cut to help hide your ears.

My hair is soft, curly and thin. Should I cut it?
    Community Answer
A good hairstylist could give you a cut that would volumize your hair without making it look like a poodle. If your hair is long now, cutting it will most likely get you a little more bounce and volume. Try looking through hair magazines or Pinterest for cuts you like on women with similar hair to you, and bring it in to a good stylist.
