    Expert Answer
Definitely! Despite popular belief, dyeing your wig does not damage the hair if you do it correctly.
  • Question
Why doesn't the dye stain the cap/flesh colored part of the wig?
    Community Answer
Since the dye is only meant for real hair, it will likely not dye the cap part of the wig. In most wigs, that part is somewhat resistant to staining. That said, all wigs are different so you should test a very small part to see if yours stains or not.
  • Question
Can I use hairspray on a human hair wig?

It should still work depending on how well the wig is made and if it is 100% real human hair. However, make sure that you understand that dying the human hair wig will permanently alter the color of the wig as it will be difficult to wash out.

  • Question
I have 100 remy human hair wig that is silver. Wanting to take it from a level 9 to a 4 in gray. It will absolutely hold zero color, it rinses right out without even staining it.
    Bunnie Harper
    Community Answer
If professional hair dyes won't hold, then it may be worth considering using methods for synthetic wigs. Definitely look into the pros and cons of using those methods but you might want to check out dyeing wigs with alcohol ink or fabric dye. I normally wouldn't recommend it but if you are certain that you won't go back on the color and nothing else is working, you might want to give it a shot.
  • Question
How do prevent dye from getting on the base of my hair topper when dyeing?
    MJ PIER

You could use a strong hairspray like a 'freeze' spray like (Got2b) on the base. It washes out when you wash out the hair dye.

  • Question

  • Question
I just bought a human hair wig, but the color is dark. They did not have the light strawberry blond I needed. Can I color it?
    Community Answer
Yes, if it is 100% human hair, and not a blended wig of human and synthetic fibers. You are definitely going to want to grab some bleach, do a test strip on the under layer of the wig to see how it will react. If it reacts well, and lifts, then you can go and get some strawberry blond hair color. Just be careful to get a shade or two lighter, because the hair follicles on the wig will probably be blasted wide open, and the dye may take too heavily and come out a bit darker.
  • Question

  • Question
How do I color black virgin hair to brown?
    Belle K.
    Top Answerer
You would need to bleach the hair, then dye it. Black hair doesn't take dye very well without it.
  • Question
Can I lighten a 1b human hair wig to light brown?
    Riley Wedler
    Community Answer
Yes, but you may have to do a color strip first. You are going to want to use something withou the effects of bleach, such as Color Oops. That will take it to a lighter tone without bleaching. Then you are ready to re-dye the wig! (Stay away from Color Fix, though, as it contains peroxide.)
  • Question
Can I remove the color in order to change the color?
    Riley Wedler
    Community Answer
If the hair is dyed a natural color already, then you may want to use a color stripper such as Color Oops and Color Fix, the latter has a bleaching agent to it, so you may get better results. But once you have stripped and dyed your human hair wig, that's the farthest you want to go. Any more chemical processing will make it look unnatural and very stiff, and then it will look like a wig. Use temporary spray dyes if you are really wanting to change up the color.
  • Question
Can I dye a blond wig with black dye?
    Community Answer
If it's human hair, then yes. Make sure you condition it really well so it still looks real, and don't leave the dye on as long as you'd think.
  • Question
Can I dye a salt and pepper wig to a light blonde color?
    Community Answer
The wig will probably not look real if you dye it, as it was intended to be a different color. You can research cheap blonde wigs, which would be a better alternative to dying the wig you have.
