  • Question
Alison has 6 blank cards . What should she write on them to get mean 6, mode 6, median 6, range 2?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
She would have to write (in no particular order): 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, and 7. The mean is (5+6+6+6+6+7) ÷ 6 = 36/6 = 6. The mode is 6, because there are more sixes than any other number. The median is 6, because if the six numbers are written in either descending or ascending order, the average of the two middle numbers (6 and 6) is 6. The range is 2, because the difference between the highest and lowest numbers (7 and 5) is 2.
  • Question
If there is a zero in the set of numbers, how is the range to be found?
    Community Answer
The same way you usually would. Find the difference between the highest and lowest numbers, and if one of those happens to be zero, then just use zero.
  • Question
If within a set of numbers, the numbers occur the same number of times, how do I find the mode?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
This would be a multi-modal data set where each number is a mode.
  • Question
There is 5 and 5, 9 and 9 that appear the most, so what is the mode?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
That series is bi-modal, meaning it has two modes, 5 and 9.
  • Question
    The mode of 8, 24, 7, 15, 18, 10 and 13 is 13. How?
    STU-Myranda Lucas
    Community Answer
The answer should be 17. Mode is the difference between the highest value (24) and the lowest value (7) there for the answer should have been 17 { 24-7=17}.
  • Question
What if there are 1 and 1 as the lowest and 9 is the highest what is the range? How?
    Community Answer
The range would be 8. This is because you subtract the lowest number in the data set from the highest, so it would be 9-1.
  • Question
What would happen if we did not put the numbers in order?
    Iris Victor
    Community Answer
For the median, we need to find the value in the center. When the values are not in ascending or descending order, the middle value cannot be accurately determined. For example in 1, 6, 2, 8, 4, if we look at it in that order, the median is 2. But when we arrange it in descending order of 8, 6, 4, 2, 1, we find that the median is 4, which is accurate. Whether it is arranged in ascending or descending order is of no significance since the center value is the same for both the orders, If we arrange the above example in ascending order, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, the median is still 4.
  • Question
If you have two middle numbers, how do you find the median?
    Community Answer
The median is the average of the two middle numbers. So add the two numbers and divide by 2. See Part 2 Step 3 above.
