Microblading is like a lite version of a tattoo. Instead a tattoo gun, a licensed aesthetician will use a microneedling tool that has a small number of tiny needles on it. These needles are moved across the skin and under your brows, depositing pigment along the way.

Tattoos last longer. With microblading, the pigment does not go as deeply as a permanent tattoo, but leaves lines similar to a brow filler. Still, microblading lasts a lot longer than brow filler and doesn't come off in the shower.

Yes. It's not like cutting hair where it's the kind of thing you can just learn by doing. There are needles and semi-permanent pigments involved. You have to get some quality training to do this safely. It's also illegal in some places to microblade without a certification.

Can I be an esthetician and practice microblading?

In the past, the state required a cosmetology license to practice microblading. As of May 2017, you just need to take the blood-borne pathogens training to do microblading in the state. If you own a salon or spa, you need to have the proper business license for you shop before you can do brows for your clients.

Can violent offenders get a cosmetologist license, and what offenses would disqualify me?

Yes, they can become cosmetologists (I'm surprised classes aren't now offered in prison). I'd think only being a sex offender would disqualify you from most things automatically. Otherwise, it's really up to the individual employer whether or not they choose to hire a felon, because they may do a background check, etc. It really depends on a lot of circumstances. In some places it's illegal for the employer to ask about your criminal history on a job application.
