QuestionHow do you speak confidently in front of an audience?Lynn Kirkham is a Professional Public Speaker and Founder of Yes You Can Speak, a San Francisco Bay Area-based public speaking educational business empowering thousands of professionals to take command of whatever stage they've been given - from job interviews, boardroom talks to TEDx and large conference platforms. You need to be comfortable making eye contact with your audience and with your audience looking back at you. Try practicing maintaining eye contact with a friend. Stare into each other's eyes in silence for several minutes. Do this five or six times. Practice looking without scanning. Scanning the entire room can make you more anxious. Instead, practice focusing your eyes on one thing or person at a time. Talk to one person for a sentence, then move your eyes to a different person for the next sentence, and so on.

QuestionWhy does my voice shake when I'm in front of my class?Community AnswerYou might have stage fright, which basically means that you're scared you'll mess up and/or people with laugh at you. The best thing to do is take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks. If you're giving a presentation and you have time beforehand, practice what you're going to say a few times, and, if possible, get a few friends or family members to watch you and pretend to be your classmates.
-
QuestionBut if I'm still scared, what do I do?Community AnswerFake it 'til you make it. The more you pretend to be confident, the more confident you will actually become.

QuestionI learn everything completely and think now I will say every line, but when I start my introduction I completely forget the lines?Terrence MacArthurCommunity AnswerWorrying you might not have everything memorized perfectly makes you nervous and makes you forget. Find a good friend, or a parent, who will be your audience until you can get through the whole thing. Once you truly know that you have it, when you get in front of the actual audience you'll just run right through it. Another way is once you think you have it memorized, write it down. Then check what you wrote.
-
QuestionI get to read what I need to say off of a piece of paper, but I am embarrassed to read it. What do I do?Terrence MacArthurCommunity AnswerPrtactice reading it out loud 3 or 4 times. Then get your parents to be your audience -- but concentrate on what you're reading, not on them. After you get through it a few times with them, you'll be confident you can do it in front of the class, and you will, in fact, do exactly that.
-
QuestionI'm scared to present because I'm afraid people will judge me. What do I do?Community AnswerDon't worry about what people will think. If you keep worrying about their opinion, you'll never be able to use your full potential. Just be confident and say whatever you want. In case of anxiety, try deep breathing or saying positive self-affirmations.

Practice in front of your family or friends. The more you speak, the better you will become at speaking publicly.

-
QuestionHow can I speak confidently when my classmates are always looking at me seriously?Community AnswerRemember that nobody in your class wants to see you fail.
