  • Question
What do I do if my pineapple turns yellow?
    Community Answer
When your pineapple is yellow it's ripe, and that means it's ready to be harvested.
  • Question
    Can they grow in vases?
    Community Answer
The roots would probably not have enough room to grow and expand, but it depends on the size of the vase.
  • Question
Two questions: 1. Even if they are basically ornamental, are they tasty (and safe) to eat, or not? 2. How long does it take to start fruiting, just one season, or more?
    Community Answer
For number one, while they are edible, they may be too acidic to be tasty, or too hard at the core, therefore they're best used as decoration. For number two, if you cut the top of the pineapple and plant it, it takes 1-2 years for the propagated plant to start bearing fruit.
  • Question
How long does it take to grow a mini pineapple?
    Community Answer
Once you have cut the top of the pineapple and so on, it takes 1-2 years for the plant to bear fruit.
  • Question
Where can I buy dwarf pineapple seeds?
    Community Answer
You do not need to buy pineapple seeds, only a dwarf pineapple. You then take the top off the pineapple and plant that.
  • Question
If my instruction leaflet says "remove fruit as it ripens or deteriorates," does that mean to take the small flowering pineapple off my plant?
    Rozann Bee
    Community Answer
Based on your question, I gather that flowers actually sprout out of those mini pineapple eyes? Since they are decorative and you like how it looks like, keep them. You are just instructed to get rid of anything that has been showing spoilage and would not look pretty. Ripe fruit also takes lots of energy from its parent plant.
  • Question
I have a mini pineapple but it has never bloomed - why?
    Community Answer
Check the fertilization of the soil. Also, make sure you are not watering it too frequently or infrequently. The temperature also matters, if you are living in a cold area, growing a tropical fruit is more difficult than growing one suitable for your conditions. You may have to prune it as well.
  • Question
Can I plant dwarf pineapples in soil?
    Community Answer
Yes, I have plenty in my yard. They're very easy to maintain. Just follow the same directions as above and place in shallow ground. They grow great in Florida!
  • Question
Once the pineapple is harvested, will the plant produce another pineapple?
    Arran Walker
    Community Answer
The original plant will die back, but in its place are usually some “pups”, little plants growing at the base. You can also plant the pineapple top to make a new plant.
