Vaseline or another brand of petroleum jelly can help lock in your eyelashes' natural moisture but it doesn't stimulate growth. Be careful not to apply it to the roots of lashes as it could clog the follicles.

None of these substances can ruin your eyesight, though they could cause irritation for some people. However, coconut oil and castor oil are safe for the eyes (that's why they're recommended for this purpose) and some people even find them soothing to use in the eyes instead of eyedrops. So you should feel free to give it a try without worries. Be aware that if you get a decent amount of it in your eyes, your vision could get a little blurry for a few minutes due to the thick oil in front of your eye, but that will settle and then your vision will be back to normal.

If you worry about destroying lashes, you are right to do so. Eyelashes can take quite a while to grow back. Try using a lighter mascara on a daily basis. If you are going to have a long night or are going to the pool/beach, then use waterproof mascara. But for going to work or school, you only need a few coats of light drugstore mascara. Try using Colossal by Maybelline, it really lengthens and volumizes and is very inexpensive and light.
