You shouldn't need to tie green beans to a trellis. If you plant pole beans, they'll need a trellis. However, you don't need to tie them to it.

You can use a bag made specifically for growing plants, which are sturdy, have drainage holes, and have handles. You can try growing them in other bags, but you'll have more success with a bag made for growing plants.

  • Question
Will green beans grow well next to corn?
    Community Answer
Yes, most of the time they will, as long as the corn is not casting too much shade over the beans.
  • Question
I have green beans plants that came up from last year. Will they produce beans?
    Community Answer
Yes. Let them grow. Treat them as if you'd planted them new.
  • Question
Do string beans become red beans?
    Community Answer
Only if you plant red beans. Seeds you plant are what you harvest. Seed packets usually have information as to color, type (pole or bush), and days to maturity.
  • Question
Can I cut off some of the big foliage so the plant doesn't keep falling over?
    Community Answer
Don't trim bean plants. If they are too tall, fix a trellis. Bush beans do not climb. If they're already growing tall, you've probably planted pole beans. You can cut lengths of page wire, bury the bottom 6 inches deep, and support the plants on wire.
  • Question
Why do some of the leaves turn brown on my green beans?
    Community Answer
This could be due to the fact that you aren't giving your plant enough sun.
  • Question
How long does it take for the green beans to be ready for harvesting?
    Community Answer
Green beans take 60 to 75 days to mature for harvest.
  • Question
What is the best method for supporting growing bean plants?
    Community Answer
You can tie six bamboo poles together at the top to form a tepee, then push each pole six inches into the ground. Plant six pole bean seeds around each pole, and keep them well watered.
  • Question
Would it help to soak the seeds overnight?
    Community Answer
It really depends what type of beans you have. Most seeds, that is not necessary to do and some in fact can harm seeds to not grow and/or not produce beans.
