If your hair is extremely dry, I suggest you try a professional treatment. Most salons offer a hydrating treatment where they'll put a mask on your hair and let you sit under the heat so the product can penetrate your hair. Then, you can buy products at the salon that will help you maintain that treatment at home.

For hot oil treatments and hair masks, you should use olive oil or coconut oil. If either of the two isn’t available to you, use any other essential oil.

  • Question
What can I do if my scalp is dry but my hair is oily?
    Community Answer
When washing your hair, use more shampoo on your scalp and less shampoo on the ends of your hair. When using conditioner, only apply the conditioner to the ends and middle of your hair; don't use any on your scalp. You might be washing your hair too often; limit yourself to 2 to 3 times a week at the most. Lastly, avoid using products that contain silicons and sulfates. Silicons can lead to greasy buildup and sulfates can lead to dryness.
  • Question
How often should I apply a hair mask?
    Community Answer
You should only apply a hair mask around once a week, but the time can vary depending on your hair type. Do some research to see the best results for you, and remember to use some of the hair masks listed above!
  • Question
What shampoo is the best for dry hair?
    Community Answer
A shampoo with no sulfates is the best, like organic ones. Also use conditioner.
  • Question
How do I keep my hair moist and straight?
    Community Answer
You can't really get your hair to stay straight unless you have naturally straight hair. So just take care of your hair by making sure it's clean and use a deep conditioner once in a while. Also, don't wash your hair everyday and make sure to condition your hair every time you wash your hair. Because when you wash your hair you are washing all its natural oils out and you need to use conditioner to replace those oils and bring moisture to your hair.
  • Question
How can I keep hair from being dry and crunchy?
    Community Answer
You must trim off the dry ends (an inch or two) if you want long hair, and keep the ends neat this way. Beware of styling products, as a lot of them contain alcohol. I have long, fine, natural blond hair that is fragile, so I grab into a pony tail and saturate with conditioner I even get into the shower, wash only the scalp (remember, the more you wash the scalp, the more oil with produce!) and let the soap wash down over the rest of the hair. Then I apply conditioner to the ends again and let it sit until the end of the shower and rinse well. I like to put apply a leave-in such as Miracle 10 or Redkin Antisnap.
  • Question
Are there products for split end curls for men?
    Community Answer
Yes. They are the same products a woman would use. These tips are for everyone.
  • Question
Should my hair be wet or dry when applying treatments?
    Afshan Sayed
    Community Answer
Hair should be damp or slightly wet. Dripping wet hair will prevent the masks and other products from getting absorbed, while dry hair is difficult to manage and soaks up a lot of product. This will take more time and effort to wash off.
  • Question
What if I'm going swimming and don't have a swim cap, but still want to keep my hair healthy?
    Community Answer
If you saturate your hair with a conditioner, the molecules of water can not enter the hair so easily, because your hair will not be wide open to absorb the chlorine and water.
