My chickens are not becoming hypnotized. After I do as told, the chicken jumps up and walks away. Am I doing something wrong?

Some of these methods are more difficult, but one way I hypnotize my chickens is by cradling them on their backs in the center of my legs while petting right under their eyes. This generally hypnotizes them right to sleep.
