Will adding RAM to my computer help with Adobe programs?
    Community Answer
In some respects, yes. You would be able to Photoshop more images at once, run video and music editing software at the same time, etc. However, the speed of your computer will remain about the same. Focusing on your CPU would be better if that's what you need.
  • Question

Is there any way to increase processor performance just like I can increase the RAM?
    Paul Sargent

Yes, there is a process you can do called overclocking. However, if you need to ask that question, you really shouldn't be trying this out. Turning the voltages up too high will fry your processor, leaving you without a PC!
  • Question
How do I boost my RAM on Windows Vista using a USB flash drive?
    Community Answer
You won't actually increase your RAM, but it can provide a temporary workspace for your computer that could improve its performance. Plug your USB drive into a USB port. After a moment or two, Windows Vista brings up the AutoPlay dialog box. Choose "Speed Up My System Using Windows ReadyBoost". Windows Vista shows you the drive’s Properties dialog box on the ReadyBoost tab. Choose the "Use This Device" option and adjust the slider to reserve the indicated amount of space for ReadyBoost. Whatever space is left on the drive can be used for your data files. ReadyBoost starts immediately. Note that if you remove the drive, you lose the memory boost.

Can I increase my RAM by just installing something from the internet?

No, RAM is something physical, not a software or a setting. If you want more memory, you'll have to buy more RAM. Make sure you get the right type and you don't exceed the maximum RAM your motherboard supports.
  • Question
Can I improve the performance of a program without upgrading the RAM?

Not really, as RAM stores the instructions and programs for quick access by the CPU. If you don't want to buy RAM, you could try a cache drive, but this is probably more expensive.

Your RAM limit is determined by two factors, your operating system (OS) and your motherboard. A 32-bit (often denoted as x32 or x86) OS can only go up to 4 GB of RAM (with some exceptions). A 64-bit OS can go up to a theoretical limit of 16 EB (exabytes), but is often limited by the OS to a lower number. You can find this number in the OS specifications (online or in a spec sheet). You'll have to find the motherboard you are using and find the appropriate specifications for it (again, online or with a physical manual). Once you have these numbers, your RAM limit is the lowest number of the two.

  • Question
Do I need to upgrade my PC to Windows 10 before I increase the RAM? I am currently using Windows 7 and don't know if I can upgrade?
    Toasterflame
    Top Answerer
Depending on what Windows 7 you are using, this should not matter. It will only make a difference if you are using a 32 bit version of Windows 7. If this is the case ensure your PC can handle a 64 bit architecture before attempting to install a 64 bit OS, which you will have to do in order to utilise more than 4GB.
