  • Question
How many inches should there be from the bottom cabinets to the upper cabinet?
    Community Answer
Typically, you should leave 18" between the counter top and the base of the upper cabinets. Some people change this by an inch or two depending on individual heights and other factors.
  • Question
What should I do with the shims that I put under the lower cabinets?
    Community Answer
You should leave all shims in place. The ones in the back get cut off, screwed through, and covered by the counter top. Those underneath should be cut off at the edge of the cabinet so they don't interfere with adjacent cabinets.
  • Question
How do I install base cabinets when they are not against a wall? They are open in the middle of the kitchen.
    Community Answer
You screw 2x4 boards to the floor on what would be the inside of the cabinets, and then screw the cabinets to these boards.
  • Question
How can I connect two cabinets together?
    Community Answer
By using a connector screw. If you do not have one, you can screw one side panel to the other side panel by using self-tapping screws.

Screw a horizontal metal plate with thickness of 2 mm and height of 100 mm between two studs, and use a self drilling screw to install the cabinets. To further secure it, repeat the same at the bottom. Each wall unit should have 2 screws at the top and 2 screws at the bottom.
