  • Question
How do I change a sound card on a laptop?
    Community Answer
If it's a laptop, chances are the soundcard is built into the motherboard, so you can't.
  • Question
How do I determine what sound card to buy?
    Denneisk
    Top Answerer
Look for a card that has a high bit-rate (24 is usually fine) and a high sample rate (anything over 96 kHz). Surround sound is optional, but if you're using or planning on using 5./7.1 headphones/speakers, do get the amount you need. A big warning to watch out for cheap cards. They could ruin the quality of sound worse than on-board cards.
  • Question

A sound card can't damage a computer unless the drivers are faulty, there is an error in the chip, or you installed it improperly.
