  • Question
Does the sulfuric acid have to be 98%?
    Community Answer
No. As stated above, you can use diluted sulfuric acid, such as battery acid.
  • Question
Will sulfuric acid harm me in any way?
    Community Answer
Yes! Avoid contact with your skin and eyes, and do not ingest it!
  • Question
What is the chemical equation for this reaction?
    TomPN
    Top Answerer
    The second reaction proceeds in two steps: 1) Cu + 4HNO3 --> Cu(NO3)2 + 2H2O + 2NO2 2) Cu(NO3)2 + H2SO4 --> CuSO4 + 2HNO3
  • Question
Can a normal battery be put in instead of a 6 volt battery?
    Community Answer
The bigger the voltage, the better and faster the reaction will be. Just don't go too high with voltage, 9-12 volts of DC should be the limit and will obviously do the job quicker than lower voltages. Voltage is basically the energy of electrons (electricity) needed to move. The bigger the voltage the more energy they'll have and that energy is going to be transferred to the surrounding chemicals and encourage the reaction.
  • Question
Can it be used to fuse gold and fine silver?
    Community Answer
Yes, it should be able to.
  • Question
How big will the crystals be when I make copper sulfate?
    Community Answer
It depends on how much solution you evaporate, and also how fast it evaporates. Slower evaporation causes bigger crystals.
