Mine-Imator is a good starting point and can get you well-versed in the basics of animation. However, Mine-Imator, while potent in itself, has poor video quality when compared to traditional software like Blender, Cinema4D, Maya, 3DS Max and SFM. I do recommend you eventually make the jump from Mine-Imator to one of those apps once you've got the basics.
