In a bucket or bowl, squish the wet paper pieces by hand into a fine slush. Another option is simmering the paper pieces in a pot of lemon juice.

Craft and woodwork shops sell both.
  • Question
How do I make it not messy?
    Community Answer
Very carefully. Unfortunately, it's a messy craft, since you're dealing with wet materials.
  • Question
What else can be used in place of screen for the mold/deckle? It's winter and no one is selling screening right now.

You can DIY one with nylons, stockings or even a scrap of any mesh fabric that doesn't break easily. For the frame, you can use an old picture frame, or fashion a smaller one with Popsicle sticks. A larger one can be made by cutting off and sanding down the tips and staggering the sticks, but this is even more tedious. It all depends on the level of work and time you're willing to invest.
