  • Question
Hang it on a doorknob? How does that work, since yogurt cups are generally wider than the distance the middle part of a doorknob sticks out from a door?

A door knob is perhaps not the best place to hang this improvised balance scale. Before making your scales, you may like to find a suitable location to hang the coat hanger. If you can't find a level rail or bar or other appropriate place that your child can easily reach, this might not be a good project. Purchasing toy balance scales from a retailer of educational toys and games might be a better idea.
  • Question
How do I know which side is heavier?
    Community Answer
Whichever side is lower than the other is heavier.
  • Question
Will this work if I don't do it with my child?
    Community Answer
Yes, but it's more fun to make this into a game to play with children.
  • Question
What are some other low handles or bars to use to hang the scale on instead of using a door handle?
    Community Answer
If you have a closet with a bar that you would hang normal coat hangers on, you could move the clothes and use it there. You could also hang it on the beam that holds your shower curtain up if you have a bath or shower with a curtain.
  • Question
Can I get a measuring balance scale?
    Community Answer
You could substitute the yogurt cups with plastic measuring flasks/cups from a dollar store.
  • Question
Where can I hang the scale in a classroom?
    Community Answer
You could hang it on a doorknob, a coat rack, or secure it with strong magnets onto a magnetic board.
  • Question
What if I do not have the hole puncher or the yogurt cup?
    Community Answer
Use a pin to poke holes, and if you don’t have a yogurt cup, then use a plastic cup or paper cup.
