  • Question
I'm trying to make a bassinet fitted sheet. It's 19 1/2" wide, and 1" high and 33" long with rounded corners. How do I modify the measurements of the fabric and fitted corners to accommodate this bassinet?
    Community Answer
Most beds have rounded corners. When you insert the elastic, it will make the corners fit a rounded or square corner.
  • Question
How do I make a king size fitted sheet?
    Community Answer
The same as shown above. Because you are measuring the bed, it doesn't make any difference if it's a queen, twin, double or king bed. The measurements are what you go by.
  • Question
I'm making a bassinet fitted sheet and the mattress is only like 1.5" thick. Do I still add the additional 16 inches?
    Community Answer
You will probably only need 8 or 10 inches. With such a thin mattress, you won't need as much fabric.
  • Question
What fabric should I use to make sheets?
    Community Answer
Best sheeting fabric is made from 100% cotton, which offers comfort and breathability, and is ideal for making luxury bedding. The fabric comes in widths of 240 cm (wide enough to cover a king-size bed).
  • Question
How can I make a king fitted sheet out of twin long sheets?
    Community Answer
Take the measurements needed to make the king fitted sheet. Subtract that from the measurements of the twin long sheets. Sew the difference around the edges of the twin long sheets so that the seams will not be on the top of the bed.
  • Question
Can I convert a fitted king size sheet to make a fitted queen size sheet?
    Community Answer
Yes. You can cut down the middle of the king size fitted sheet, from top to bottom. Measure a queen size sheet/bed, making allowances for the seam, and sew.
  • Question
Will this pattern work for a corner cut mattress in a camper?
    Community Answer
    Yes. It will work great.
  • Question
My queen fitted sheet doesn't have deep enough pockets for my double pillow top mattress. How can I make the pockets deeper using another piece of fabric?
    Community Answer
Determine how much needs to be added (plus seams) for depth (I needed to add 4 inches for depth so used about 5 1/2 wide to allow for a seam on both edges). Cut two pieces of new fabric about 2 inches longer that the length of the mattress (for the sides) and two pieces about 2 inches longer than the width (for the head and foot). Put the fitted sheet on the bed and mark a cutting line on the fitted sheet showing where to insert the new pieces; cut it, saving the part with elastic. Sew the four pieces to the sheet, joining and trimming at the corners. Join the piece with elastic to the other edge of the inserted fabric.

How do I make round fitted sheets?

    Community Answer
Measure both length and width. Add the depth of the mattress and at least 8 inches to each measurement. Rather than using geometry, lay the fabric out on the floor and place the mattress on top. Tie a string to a fabric marker and cut it off at depth+8 inches. Hold the end of the string at the edge of the mattress and use the marker to draw a circle around the mattress. Trim here. Cut a single slit to thread elastic through the entire edge and just let the sheet form natural pleats.
  • Question
I have a California King Split. Can I make 2 twin XL sheets from a fitted California sheet?
    Community Answer
No. A California King Split mattress has a different dimension than a twin XL mattress. The twin XL mattress is 39" x 80", but a California King Split mattress is 36" x 84". The twin XL sheet is 4" too short and 3" too wide for the California Split mattress. Perhaps you could lengthen it by piecing in scraps from narrowing the twin XL, but then you would have seams under your pillow or feet.
  • Question
How do I make a fitted sheet fit tightly if they're too big for the depth of my mattress?
    Community Answer
Stitch a wide piece of elastic (1 1/2 to 2 inches wide) from approximately 10 to 12 inches from the corner seam on the long side across to the same amount on the wide side. (The elastic must be short enough to pull the sheet in.)
  • Question
Can I make 2 extra large twin, fitted sheets from one king size fitted sheet?
    Community Answer
Unlikely. You will get one ex-large twin and pillowcases with the remainder of the sheet
