    Anything soft can be used in place of the suggested polyester pillow stuffing: cotton wool, rags cut into pieces, even torn-up scrap paper or old newspapers would do for stuffing the ears and tail of your lion costume.

    No, you don't need to bias cut the fabric to form the tube for the tail of the costume. You can cut your fabric to the width and length required, wasting as little fabric as possible. You look could even have a rope or yarn tail instead.
