If I were to have a nature journal, could I also collect things to go with the journal as long as it doesn't harm the wildlife?

You would also need to make sure not to pick up or take objects on public lands such as National Parks. Never, ever take artifacts or historical objects. If you are on your own property or a friend's it is best to ask first and then do your collecting. However, the better you can sketch it out and describe where you found it, the better naturalist you will become.

For example, if you see a bird, you may want to find out what kind of food it eats, or why it is where you found it. If you find a plant that catches your attention, you can observe it, to see if any insects are near it, and write down what kind.
