  • Question
Is Stormaline a good name for a rebellious girl who ignores how her parents want her to behave?
    Community Answer
It’s okay, but it sounds a bit too dramatic. If her parents want her to obey, why would they name her Stormaline, which implies a wild and tempestuous nature? Perhaps a more sedate name that she could make into a more rebellious nickname would be better. For example, Zephyr (a calm, warm breeze), might make more sense. Then people could call her Stormy.
  • Question
Is Galea a good name for a witch? If not, then what is?
    Morrigan

Galea would definitely work for a witch. Some other witch-y names include Morgana and Ariadne.
  • Question
My protagonist's name is Kaitlin. Can one nickname be Kitty? I found it online somewhere.
    Community Answer
Sure, Kitty can be a nickname for Kaitlin. Just make sure it matches your protagonist. It's kind of a cute, girly nickname, so it might not suit a tomboy type.

  • Question
Can you please say what sort of character you associate with the names Viktor, Vadim and Artem? I like all these names but I need to decide on one.
    Writingismypassion
    Community Answer
"Viktor" sounds like he would be a tough and strong boy, but might have a soft spot. "Vadim" sounds like a selfish and ambitious boy who could be self-conscious. "Artem" sounds like a shy boy who can be very loyal.
  • Question
My character is extremely fierce and knows what she wants. What name do you suggest?
    Community Answer
Jessie, Monica, Brandy and Maura are good names for that personality. Or you could try Athena or Mary.
  • Question
I need a name for a 14-23 y/o girl with long wavy black hair, blueish green eyes, and a few freckles on her nose. She is really smart and independent.

I think the name "Maia" would be great, because the name is associated with beauty and warriors. It has a Greek origin.
  • Question
What's a good name for a nice, kind, and loving girl?
    Morrigan

Some name suggestions: Adriana, Aria, Sophie/Sophia, Emily, Emma, Kaya, Anne/Anna, Cassie, Cathy, Kate, Kaitlyn, Cristina, and Olivia.
  • Question
What would be a good name for a woman who jokes around a lot, but has very unstable emotions?
    Community Answer
Mariyah, Jessette, Olivia, and Katrina sound like good names to me. Katrina would work because of hurricane Katrina, there are many jokes about it. Olivia sounds a bit sassy, and maybe sensitive. Jessette is just like Olivia, I imagine. And Mariyah means "bitter," but it also means "sweet ocean," so it could be a mix.
  • Question
What if my character exists in a different universe?
    Evelyn Shergill
    Community Answer
Come up with names you think would fit your setting. If it's a fantasy, maybe Indra or Grolmar would work.
  • Question
My character is actually a lizard and I want his name to mean friend or light in the darkness. Is that good?
    Community Answer
Yes, you could name him Amigo for friend, or Tunnel, as in “light at the end of the tunnel.”
  • Question
Would Sasha be a good name for a character who is nice, a little mean, loyal, shy and creative?
    Community Answer
When I imagine a Sasha, I think of many of those qualities. Depending on her backstory, she may have inner battles about beating herself up for making snap judgments of people.
  • Question
My character is a very innocent child. What if I name her Oliver?
    Community Answer
Oliver tends to be only used as a boy's name. You did say "her," so I'm assuming your character is female. Maybe you could go with Olive or Olivia? If your character is a boy, keep in mind that there is a pretty famous innocent child character named Oliver from the Charles Dickens book Oliver Twist, so you might want to choose something more original.

  • Question
Can you people describe what you picture for these names: Hallia, Dancia, Alia, Rhia, Meadow, Stream? I love all these names, but they don't seem to fit. I need your opinion.
    Community Answer
Hallia sounds like a name for a sweet girl, someone who likes to play in the grass and have picnics. Dancia sounds too much like dance, and seems weird. Alia is all right, but I don't suggest it for any of your characters. Rhia reminds me of Rhea, the Greek titaness of childbirth, and while it is a nice name, consider the background. Meadow and Stream don't sound like the names of real people, and you want your readers to associate themselves with your characters.

  • Question
My character has hip length white hair, tanned skin, freckles, and gray eyes. She is a perfectionist and is always being bossy and thinks she's always right. She is very heroic. Is Holly a good name?
    Ronaldo Fryman
    Community Answer
Holly sounds too much like a valley girl. Give your character a name that’s not too feminine, I get the vibe that she’s not that type. Go with a name like Zoe, Cora, Jae, Olive, Joan, Cameron, or Dylan.

  • Question
What does "Stormlark" sound like to you? (It's for an elf.)
    Community Answer
It is suggestive of a breed of sea bird that flies across the ocean and survives even the worst of storms or perhaps draws strength from storms. An elf with water or air (wind) power would be blessed to have this name, especially an elf living near the sea or on an island in the sea.
