  • Question
    Which method is recommended?
    Community Answer
I've had the most success using rubber bands, but hot water works well, too.
  • Question
I have tried using hot water and a rubber band, but neither method worked. Do you have any other suggestions?
    Community Answer
The tapping method is surprisingly underrated, but it always works for me. Just take the bottle and hit the cap against the edge of a table (tap it hard but not so hard it explodes). What works best for me is a "tap tap tap," and then I turn the bottle and do another "tap tap tap." Just do this all around the bottle and it'll definitely open!
  • Question
How do I open a ridged plastic cap on a water bottle more easily?
    Community Answer
Just put one or more rubber bands on it, then grip through them. They increase friction so your hand won't get cut.

  • Question
I broke the seal, but the bottle still won't open. What do I do now?

Try soaking the bottle in hot water first. Then, try opening it by sticking a sharp knife up under the edges of the bottle cap and edging it all around.

Ask a friend or family member to help you open it.

Try the rubber band method, or just buy some more coke and save yourself the stress and pain.
  • Question
How do I open a bottle of water if I have two arm and hand casts on?

Ask someone to help you. It would be impossible for you to open a bottle without using your hands/arms and you might hurt yourself further if you try.
  • Question
Will this work with Powerade bottles?
    Community Answer
Yes, Powerade and Gatorade bottles are exactly the same as water bottles, so you can use the same methods.
  • Question
Why is it possible to loosen steel caps on screw-top bottles by dipping the cap in hot water?
    Dev Murphy
    Community Answer
The hot water will cause the cap to expand slightly, making it easier to unscrew it from the bottle. But it's not recommended to hold a glass bottle under hot water, as the change in temperature could cause the glass to shatter, especially if the bottle's contents are very cold.
  • Question
I've been opening my water bottles by stabbing them for years now, and I can't find the twisty thing. Can someone be more specific about where it is?
    Dev Murphy
    Community Answer
The bottle's seal is a plastic ring located just below the cap. It usually blends in a little with the cap, but it's attached by a perforated line that you can break with a blade. Using a blade is always hazardous, but it's probably safer to slice the perforated seal than to stab your water bottle (and will yield more elegant results).
