I'm reading a novel. The next page is not opening. How do I open the next page to continue reading?

The Kindle may be "frozen," basically a software malfunction. Try turning it off, then back on. If that doesn't work, press down and hold the on/off button. The screen will flash a couple of times, then go dark, but keep holding the button for another 30 seconds or so. Then release. You'll have a little bit of a wait, but you should see the Kindle logo come up after a while, and the Kindle will reload and open.
