Prepare ahead of time. Study your schedule as soon as you get it and always carry a pen or pencil with you. Pay attention in your classes and just stay calm. The first day of school can be overwhelming but it's also the first day for your teachers and classmates. Try not to worry too much. You will survive!

If your middle school has block scheduling, try labeling or marking your textbooks and notebooks different colors. For example, if you have the same classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday you can mark every item you need for those days with a specific color. You should then try to keep these items together in one pile. If you have different courses on Tuesdays or Thursdays, you can do the same thing with a different color. This way you can switch out what's in your bag each day.

Where do I put my tablet?

Since you don't want to take a chance and have your tablet break, try placing it in the main pocket of your backpack. You can also put it between two textbooks or notebooks to give it some extra padding. This will help prevent it from bouncing around too much, too.

I'm going to miss my middle school orientation and I'm worried about what I'll miss out on.

Most middle school orientations are introductions to the school. Incoming students and parents are able to tour the building to locate classes, bathrooms, lockers, the library, and where drop-offs and pick-ups take place. They are also times to learn about expectations for the school year and for meeting teachers. However, most orientations aren't mandatory, meaning it's okay if you miss them. If you're still worried, though, you can have your parents contact your teacher or the principal. They may allow you to tour the school at a different time. They should also be able to give you any of the information they went over at orientation, so you don't miss out.
