  • Question
Can I play this game alone?
    Community Answer
Theoretically, yes. With enough creativity and a slight bend of the rules here and there, you could play it alone. It would be like playing chess on your own. Also, many collectors of Warhammer prefer the building and painting process to the game itself. With a little practice and dedication you can dramatically improve your painting skills in a short period of time.
  • Question
What if I don't have anyone to play with? Are there events I could go to?
    Community Answer
You would have to research that, as every place is different. However, if you can find a gaming store you can possibly find events or ask around, or see about hosting an event yourself, depending on the store's setup.
  • Question
What is the best army to collect for beginners?
    Community Answer
Space marines (ultramarines) are easy to get into, but honestly, it's mostly a matter of personal preference.
  • Question
If I am a beginner, should I play necrons?
    Community Answer
Necrons are a great choice for new players who want powerful armies that do not rely too much on complex schemes. They shoot quite well, have decent armor and have nicely powered vehicles. They are also, arguably, the most resilient army in the game.
  • Question
How many miniatures do I need to play?
    Community Answer
The number of miniatures is based off of how many points that you and your opponent have planned.
  • Question
Where can I get a decent Dark Eldar army with a budget of $110?
    Community Answer
You should buy the beginning kit which is about $100. It contains the basic units to begin.
  • Question
    What about the Tau Empire?
    Community Answer
I have a Tau army, I sometimes use them as allies with my Ultramarines. They are not bad.
  • Question
Do you recommend getting Skitarii when I first start Warhammer?
    Community Answer
This is my personal army of choice. If your mind is set on Skitarii as your army, it's better to start collecting them early than to buy another army and either get turned off the hobby for playing something you didn't care for or spend a bunch of money on something you wont play again. That being said, they are not a newbie-friendly army, especially with regard to painting.
  • Question
How many different armies can I have at once?
    Reno Byrom
    Community Answer
The only limit is space and money. If you are referring to gameplay, that requires consultation of your rule book.
  • Question
    What is triangular dice for?
    Community Answer
The triangular blast template in Warhammer was originally used for area of effect for weapons, such as flamers, but as blast templates are no longer in use, it is not important to have them.
  • Question
How do I play Warhammer 40K on a budget?
    Community Answer
Have an Ultramarines army. Don't buy citadel paint, as it's really expensive. You don't have to have a huge army, just a few units are enough to play with someone in a small game.
  • Question
Are the T'au a good idea to enter Warhammer 40k?
    Blaziken77g
    Community Answer
As long as you like them, yes! Don't get too caught up in the stigma surrounding an army as that could lead you to play an army you don't really enjoy. If the T'au range has your favourite models and favourite playstyle, go for it. Remember: Warhammer 40'000 is a game. That means you should have fun with it and if you enjoy the T'au's aesthetics and rules, play them!
  • Question
If you get a starter kit can you play without purchasing a codex?
    bob bob
    Community Answer
Hypothetically yes, you can play with just the rules on the datasheet - you can also find most rules for the game and the factions on Wahapedia but a codex definitely is easier to use.
  • Question
i just looked at the website and didn't find the dark vengeance box, why?
    bob bob
    Community Answer
It is an old box set, so is no longer in production. You can purchase the Warhammer 40K starter sets instead - there are 3 types, each one with increasing price and models (featuring Necrons and space marines). Combat patrols are also a good starting point for singular armies
