    Expert Answer
A rose is going to last longer if they were grown closer to you. Try buying locally-grown roses, as they spend less time without water in shipping. When displaying the rose, using fresh water and a fresh vase is imperative. Make sure to wash out the vase with soap and water and let it dry before adding the roses. If you notice that one or two roses are starting to weep a little bit, you can try to re-cut them, and you can actually cut their stems under flowing water so that no air gets pulled into the stem itself.

One weird trick is to stick a needle right underneath the head of the flower. Creating this tiny hole can release any air bubbles that are in the flower, allowing any weeping roses to firm back up.

Do I spray the rose before or after it has dried?

If you are talking about hairspray, after it has dried. This is just if you would like to protect them. If you would like to preserve them longer, spray with hairspray and DO NOT dry them out.
  • Question
Can I use hairspray on roses that have been dry for one year?
    Community Answer
If the rose still looks okay, then yes. However, if it doesn't, then I would recommend just finding a new flower. There really isn't much of a use for a year old flower that's all crunchy.
  • Question
If I want to press roses, is it better to let them dry out first?
    Community Answer
No, if you press them while dry, your flowers will crack and fall apart. Press them fresh and let them dry in the book.
