QuestionI have all the bolts pulled out of the transmission of a 1998 2-wheel-drive Chevy. How do I get it out?Community AnswerDo you also have all the bolts out of the flywheel or torque converter? If so, it may just be tight and need a little wiggling to get out.

QuestionHow do you remove the drive shaft connections?Community AnswerMost two-wheel drive cars and trucks only have one connection. The universal joint, which is on the front facing side of your rear end, has 4 bolts. Take those 4 bolts out, as well as the carriers (the parts that the bolts are holding). After that, take a screw driver and pop the end of the drive shaft out of the universal joint holder. The drive shaft will come down, and then you can simply pull it out of the transmission end.

QuestionDoes the radiator need to be replaced if the transmission is being replaced?Community AnswerIt does not need to be replaced unless it is leaking. The transmission cooler should be flushed out, though.
-
QuestionCan someone explain why my transmission will not shift out of first?Community AnswerIt's probable that either your throw out bearing is toast or you have a cracked spline.
-
QuestionWhat should I do if I can't shift into gear on my automatic truck?Community AnswerA binding shifter linkage would cause this. If the linkage moves freely, then that suggests an improper linkage adjustment. This could also be caused by a low fluid level.

QuestionI just put a new torque converter and transmission in, and now my truck won't move in drive or reverse. What can I do?Community AnswerMake sure you have enough oil in it. It usually takes about 13 or more quarts of oil to fill it completely.
-
QuestionAre there any specialty tools required when changing out a transmission?Community AnswerNo. Common hand tools will work, but will be easier with an impact wrench and some other power tools.
-
QuestionHow do I remove a transmission fluid pan?Community AnswerUndo the bolts underneath or on the sides and pull it off carefully. Make sure not to spill it all over your face, though.
