What kind of phone is it? Generally, modern phones won't allow you through unless you manage to 1. crack the passcode, or 2. manage to get your child to tell you the passcode.

I forgot which email address I used to unlock my Android phone -- how can I reset it?

In Settings, go to Accounts. There it will show the emails. If not, go to the bottom where it says Backup and Reset, click Factory Reset. This deletes everything though, so only use it if necessary.
