Reset your computer, or do an in-place upgrade which reinstalls Windows without you losing data or files. It will reinstall your sound driver.
  • Question
I have Windows 8. I can't find the solution! I have tried your methods and it's still not working.
    Community Answer
Make sure your physical sound card is working. It may be that you have multiple sound systems. Click on the one you would like to use by going to the taskbar and clicking the sound option. Then click on the name of your sound speakers, i.e. Conexant SmartAudio HD, then choose your preferred sound system.
  • Question
My computer is always installing update 9 of 9. What causes this?
    Community Answer
This depends on what the updates are, and if they're being installed correctly. However, recently I was getting the same problem in regards to updating .NET Framework 4. If that is indeed the problem, uninstall .NET Framework Client Profile from the computer, restart, and see if the same updates are installed again. This works because the installs are not being properly integrated, and they keep reinstalling. Windows will then detect an important update to install, and the problem should be fixed.

How do I resolve no sound on my Windows XP computer? I have a Creative SoundBlaster Live.

If it's the only option, try to plug and unplug your headphones. It may fix the issue.
  • Question
What do I do if I'm not getting any sounds on my headphones?
    Community Answer
Firstly check to see if your headphones are connected. You can see this when clicking the sound icon in the bottom right corner. If it isn't, then it is most likely that they are broken. If they are, then make sure the volume is up. It could be a problem with hardware or drivers. If other headphones work, then it is most likely your own headphones.

  • Question
What is the cause of problem if the earphones are unable to be inserted into sound input on the left side?
    Rudy Toth
    Community Answer
It is the headphone jack problem that is the main conflict. With some headphone jacks, you will notice a two-ring jack, and some have a three-ring (white) color code jack and the other female jack inside the computer isn't compatible with one of them. Start collecting up different cheap-jack adapters for those kinds of specific headphone jacks to use an adapter to make the headphones work. 3.5mm jacks, right? Also, don't forget to press or depress the mute key, on/off being the F6 key on your keyboard. If an orange light is on that means your "mute" key is activated.
  • Question
My problem was solved by changing the speaker format, but I'm trying to figure out why. Can Windows change the speaker format on its own?
    Rudy Toth
    Community Answer
No. Windows can't change things on its own merits. The one who might change the speaker format is those who create updates for things to change inside of your computer. Computers don't change on their own just like they can't make coffee...yet.
