  • Question
I used sealer and I couldn't get the stain dark enough. Can I stain first and then use the sealer?

Yes, the stain will make your wood darker, and the sealer will preserve the stain you used.
  • Question
If you are tired of the darker stain in a couple of years is it reversable or is that permant?

It's reversible if someone is willing to do the work required. You'd have to sand off the old stain (and any finish product) and replace it with new stain or paint.
  • Question
Can I apply a varnish as a protector instead of a sealer?

Varnish is a sealer. However, if it's out in the weather, it will gradually break down and look ugly and not seal anymore. The best bet is first to use a standard sealer (either colored or clear). Then you can varnish.
  • Question
My old pine doors are already stained. Can I re-stain them with an oak stain?

You can re-stain them in oak, but prep first is important, depending on their condition. You can try to get the old stain out with diluted Clorox and then a good rinsing and drying, but you won't be able to get all the stain out, so your oak effect won't be the same as if it were virgin wood.
