  • Question
Is wire a good material for tying up tomato plants or any kind of climbing vegetable?

    Community Answer
You should always use some soft stretchy material, such as old pantyhose. The plant will get damaged by wire, especially in windy conditions. There is also a possibility of burning the stem when the sun is on the plant.
  • Question
Where do you go to find twine?
    Community Answer
Twine is easily located at most craft stores, some big department stores and hardware stores.
  • Question
How should I support clusters of five or six tomatoes, so they don’t break their stems from the main plant?
    Community Answer
Place the cluster inside a clear plastic bag or a mesh bag, and use a stake to support the bag. Keep leaves out of the bag if possible. Do this very carefully to avoid damaging the plant.
  • Question
What do I do if I've caused damage from ties digging into the main stem of the plant?
    Community Answer
Loosen the ties. Support any affected branches with stakes. The damage may be irreparable, but the plant might still produce well.
